Gents.

I know it most probably has been done by somebody here.

What would be the costs involved in converting an e46 330i Auto Gbox to a Manual?

Just a ballpark figure...

The coding is quite tricky, however the info is all available online now. On youtube there is a guy called 50s kid. He shows everything but he didnt swap out the diff. It is a must to swap the diff also. Cost is as Nikhil said. You can also sell the old parts to recoup some. The easiest will be selling the auto gearbox.

Can I ask why? :fencelook:

Just a thought hey.

There are a good few MTechII 330i out there with reasonable mileage considering the age, but all auto's.

Manual is almost impossible to find. Chances are the manuals have also had some harsh drivers.

Maybe a good Auto 330 swapped to a manual might be an option?

If that is the case, go for it.

You could easily sell the auto box, torque converter and diff. I see on gumtree some 330i being stripped.

I just had my 330ci changed from Auto to Manual. It cost me R30k for everything. My mechanic kept the auto diff in and I am absolutely happy and glad I did the conversion. Spending huge money on the auto every time and it never lasted.

He used a 6sp gearbox from a 6 cylinder E90 BMW.

Sharp.

Quite the opposite.

It is in fact very popular for manual owners (6spd) to swap their diffs to the auto variant

What is the reason for this?

The manual rear diff is 2.93, and the auto is 3.38. Swapping in the 3.38 into a 6 speed manual is a common upgrade to improve torque delivery/in-gear acceleration/fun-factor with the shorter ratio. 6th gear allows cruising RPM to remain reasonable - 2900rpm @ 120km/h - so fuel consumption isn't affected too much.

Thanks man
I assume this will be the same for the e39 models?
Is the 2,5 the same as the 3,0 diff?
