E46 330i Weird Sound / I'm freaking out!

Hey guys,

So last night getting home I heard a sound coming from the car, thought it might be me just over paranoid.

So getting home today from work, standing still at a robot listening to music the started feeling shaky, turned down the music and heard the car idling weird.

Got home parked the car in the garage and looked for the sound, seemed to be in front but more in the middle, as the car stood idling the sound got louder from underneath and from the exhaust (base, this actually sounded awesome).

My first thought was maybe idling control valve, but I don't want to make assumptions on my own, please guy help me out.

Dude... WTF is that noise?

Where is it coming from???

I can't find the exact source, its raining here now so can't check it, waiting till the rain finishes then I will have a look.

It seems that the sound is only there when the car has heated up / after a drive (No noise at all while driving)..

Sounds like a rattle of some sorts, waiting for the laptop to finish charging them I will do diagnostics and see if that returns anything :nonono:

take it to an exhaust shop and let them put it up on a ramp and poke around. A rattle isn't going to throw an error code...

You think it might just be a rattle? Just don't want to drive it if it's something worse, the X5 was also just a noise, also took it to zorst shop and because I drove it, the engine is fcked. Not that I am saying this is the case, just afraid as fck, want to avoid another R100K bill

Exactly what I was going to ask - maybe input gear shaft rattling? Really sounds odd though! Yep, get it onto a ramp and have a look around.

if it is exhaust that will be good news because a new Viper system is scheduled to go on next week

but I suspect it has something to do with the gearbox...

that would freak me out too, have an exhaust rattle as well, not nearly as bad as that, but I hate it and what to get it fixed asap. Sounds like there's a bunch of loose coins bouncing around in my exhaust when revving hard.

Thanks I appreciate it.

It does make sense what you are saying, might explain the exhaust base getting louder?

Just waiting for the rain to die down, then I will put it on the ramps and test the clutch

So when clutch is pressed, sound is gone, but idling still off.

What does this mean? Flywheel?

Uhmm.

Misfire, cylinder 4, misfiring with cylinder cutout (Misfire CARB_A)

im thinking flywheel or clutch release bearing...

did you get under the car to hear where the noise is coming from?

I donno.

My hypothesis is that due to the misfire the engine has large vibrations, flywheel clutch... see? Question is, is this the coilpack? And if so, where will I get a new one from now to tomorrow
