Good morning everyone
I just thought I'd share my experience with my rough idle issue. I bought my 330i last year 2017 in October. At first the rough idle wasnt really an issue as I thought it was just cold and that the engine was just warming up. In fact, the rough idle would only last for about 30 seconds and then go away as the engine would idle perfectly.
This issue got far worse this year until last week when the car wouldnt even idle and I had to hold a rev for it to warm up. I had the codes read and got a lean error on cyl 1 and 3. Went out and bought some Liqui Moly MAF cleaner and cleaned the MAF out. Still the issue persisted. I then started googling some symptoms and decided to have the Disa valve checked out. Whilst removing the rubber intake boot (upper) I noticed a tear in the rubber. I immediately realized that this was the culprit and was silly to not check this first as I had the same issue on my previous E36 328i. Ran off to SMG and bought both upper and lower boots (R703 incl) and replaced it Fri night.
Lo and behold!!! The car has transformed!!!! Idle is smooth, throttle is responsive but the biggest difference is the absolute beastly performance now from the engine!!! What a massive difference in power and delivery throughout the rev range. Ive also noticed a marked difference in fuel consumption. The car has a 140k on the clock and the engine sounds so much better on idle.
Just thought I'd share this if anyone else has similar issues.
Regards
