Moranor. Is this the only indication the vanos seals need replacing?

if you check you tube there are videos of revs jumping as well at idle

Engine just dies when depressing the clutch as you approach a stop was the camshaft position sensor on mine. You have a 330i, therefore the rpm gauge might just dip below idle and restore to normal idling position
Erratic idling / misfire - inlet manifold / vacuum leak, plugs, coils, MAF.
Unplug the MAF, see if it makes a difference.
Fuel filter is a must every 10-15000km's, regardless and just because.
Vanos related / seals - lazy, hesitation on pull away.

Hi all

One of the other symtoms is bad fuel comsumption, if your comsumption has deteriorated then that too can be sure sign of vanos seals failing.

Before I did oil change, my consumption was 11.5L/100km, now it's 7.2L/100KM

Thats one of the reasons I ask Morne.

They are like R1200 from agents - I'd suggest every 50 000Kms + plus it's a pig of a job - or maybe it's me because it really shouldn't be, I just seem to battle eveytime I do one !!!

Mine costs R250, from ABE parts; its an old type one line in, one line out. I replace more often than recommended.
R1200 for a filter WTF ????
Perhaps my filling stations have dirty fuel or something :dunno:
I will make a Video post next time I replace, so you can see what it looks like after 10 000 + km's.
That's about a 1000 liters of fuel through there @10km/l consumption.
When the car starts with any hesitation, it is the first replacement I do.
Next time I must get myself one of these.
Just wear my nuclear suit when I do one.

Thanks, get me a suit too please. I guess that I should just follow the actual Haynes manual's instructions but, removing the fuel pump fuse and letting it idle until is stalls just seems a waste of time.

I see your 323 is the same vintage as my 318, but I have 4 fittings on mine, 2 in and 2 out. with 8 jubliee clips.

The 330i also has 4 fittings, but 1 is just a simple press fit, but it pisses petrol like a race horse, runs down your arm into your armpit and gets you jumping around like a madman in your garage.

SO I changed the vanos and have done 500km + since. The hesitation is still present and I feel no difference, even though the vanos pistons had play on them when checking as per the DIY.

I don't know what to do anymore.

Are you 100% sure all the coils are working 100%?

I could check just to make sure, but doing diagnostics it doesn't give me an error related to that, also idle is perfectly stable.

Wouldn't hurt just to test. I normally test them by plugging them out one by one to check the diff, or is there another better way of doing so?

Just keep in mind that the factory fitted fuel filter includes the fuel pressure regulator as well.

"feel no difference" no difference to the hesitation or no difference to engine at all?

I feel no difference at all, but this could be due to the other problem still lurking?

I see, so should I order on from BMW then as well? Or are you just trying to educate me on why it could be the filter?

Sometimes those coils act up intermittently. One minute everything's fine and the next minute you have no power.
