Welcome.

They do get quite hot when driven hard. My E46 gets really hot when stationary, partly because I don't have an auxiliary fan anymore.

What does it read on the temperature gauge when it's hot?

If the temp gauge is in the middle where it should be, there is nothing to be concerned about. These motors do run with a water temperature of around 96 - 98 deg C.

Not too sure on the temperature I would say 50 degrees

yes coolant is filled to the max

Do you still have the insulation material underneath the bonnet? :thinking:

Mine also gets very hot, but I think it's normal. Temperature gauge stays dead centre and I have the insulation material under the bonnet.

If I wash my car while it's hot the water evaporates off the bonnet almost instantly.

Jip e90 pre-facelift had insulation. The e90 LCI has no insolation and the bonet gets very hot. I wanted to fit insolation but was told by BMW its better to leave it off because the engine gets better cooling and the heat in engine compartmant disapates quicker without the mat. They even left the cover off the oil cooler.
:wtf::wtf::wtf:

Any coments on this or info

Cant talk for the E90's but DEFINITELY get some bonnet insulation for your E46.

I'd be worried about the paint cracking on your bonnet because of the uneven heating and cooling effect.
