I rather get less mileage and have a smile on my face more often

I have 55000 on my rears currently, 245/40/17 Michelin and there is still I would guess around 10k left in them. Driving style mixed, sometimes hard, mostly civilized :rollsmile:
I think that the reason that they do wear is as mentioned, the torque but also the car has quite a bit of camber compared to other vehicles so it also pronounces the wear. Also the right foot can be apportioned blame in a lot of cases....:rollsmile::fencelook:

My Golf's drive tyres have about 50k on them and have at least another 10-15k in them and she puts plenty of torque through them :fencelook:

Right, fitted Pirelli to the front now as well, front tyres had some life, but these were on special......had wheel alignment done, eish....the only wheel that was in the correct position was the spare wheel.....:roflol:
Was told the 330 needs alignment done every 10 000km, will do so, hasn't been done for over 30 000km.....feels like a new car, handles like it should again......I'm told tyres will last longer this way, must rotate front to back as well......so we live and learn, my E36 325i used to get good tyre mileage, and hardly ever needed adjustment when it had wheel alignment done.....E46 330i is a lot more finicky.....

I got 48000 on Conti sc3.

Rotating does help but then you have to buy 4 at a time. Don't you have a staggered set of rims. If so then you can't rotate for obvious reasons.

hard compound tyre = poor grip/very good wear rate

and anything inbetween

My bakkie has 134000 on the clock and still original tires. The merc gets 35000 on a set and the bm 20000 on the rears 35000 on the fronts
