Get meyle HD engine mounts from moranor on the forum and get powerflex diff bushes from moranor aswell or meyle HD but i'd go powerflex if you want to tune the car.

I have gotten Powerflex bushes from moranor before and I'm very happy with it so will definitely go for that again! Thanks for the advice!

Aaaalrighty so that car was in a nasty crash in 2007 that had a nice R62 000 repair price and included things like "straighten front end, straighten rear, repair right rear chassis leg"....

soooooo... there is another one on the market here, unfortunately it is automatic aaand the automatic transmission fault light is on. However, the car look extremely good and well looked after...

How much would it cost to get the auto box repaired/replaced or converted to manual?

Here is the ad for it: http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-cars/parow/2003-bmw-3+30d-a-t-e46/1001103454580910004244809

Worth just doing the conversion then no more worries

I will ask the dealership if something like this is possible. I would love a stock manual but so far ive only seen 2 here and both were sketchy :/

BMW dealership will laugh at you... If you were in GP chat to Gizmo, he's done one...

DieselFan is in the midst or about to start one on his E46. He should help you out with a specialist

It's going to be a first for my mechanics too. But I've been throwing so much money at the e46. We had it resprayed because of some rust issues.

So I've been thinking with a very heavy heart as the car was my fathers daily. That when I get back to cape town. I will have my mechanic inspect the car thoroughly from top to bottom and see if it worth continuing with my build. As I'm not going to go throw R50k at this car and it end up rusting from underneath me.

If that is the case. I may sell the car, or strip the car for parts. And look this year for another e46 with a 6 speed manual.

I may also sell my 320d and buy a E90 330d. But that's neither here nor there :=): .

The dealership wont know squat about doing a gearbox conversion.

I fully trust my mechanics are capable. I think they have done some e36 just not e46s. If you want to chat to them about it. Go ahead they will definitely put you at ease. They are always honest and I have only ever once had a hiccup with them and they changed my brakes for free. Which is around the cost of the part they broke.

hahaha yeah I know they will, but I was reffering to the car dealership where this car is standing, they sent me a "diagnostics report" which show all the modules in the car pass.. lol.. like that means anything to me, the gearbox jerks between gears especially when gearing down when coming to a stop. ZF Gearboxes said its about R24k to recon the box on average. The only other thing I can find wrong with the car is you have to swing it quite a while before it starts. wonder what that can be? I asked the dealer to drop the price with R25k then I will be interested.. so will see what they say..

Interesting, who is your mechanics if I may ask? Are you based in Cape Town? I would love to come chek out your diesels! Do you thing a place like ZF will be able to do the auto to manual conversion?

I highly doubt ZF would do a conversion.

My mechanics are Brilliant Mechanical Workshop they are in the southern suburbs next to kenilworth centre. Here is their webiste not too flashy but anyway: http://www.m1group.co.za/Workshop.html

If you are in Northern Suburbs your best bet is garage 808 as its closer. I cant speak from personal experience with them but a lot of forum members recommend them.

You are more than welcome to come check them out and come for a spin in my smokey diesels, well only my 320d is smokes. The 330d had to quit for health reasons as he's getting old (sorry bad joke). Or check come to the next meet which I will hopefully be attending as I've been away so I missed the recent trip to Hermanus.

Ah I see, thanks will definitely check out your mechanics! I have heard of 808 too. Sweet thanks! After this mission of finding a decent e46 330d it looks like I will need to spend about 100k in total to get a nice one, that got me thinking, why not just get an e90 320d? You have one right? how is it compared to the e46 330d? and I saw one of your threads your 330d has over 400k on!! WOW how much does it have on now?

You're going to spend more than R100k for a 320d that hasnt been dragged through the mud.

Around R130 at the very least I'd say but I havent really been looking at the car market so who knows.

The E90 has quite a better suspension set up than the E46 makes one feel a lot more comfortable in the corners. I love both cars though. The e46 is a nicer cruiser in my opinion the steering is nice and soft where as the E90 has a "stiffer" steering.

I would say R90k for a nice 330d.

It's a tough choice. Personally I'd rather have the 6 cylinder, but the E90 is quite a bit further in terms of tech than the e46.

Sorry my reply wasnt very clear but its a hard decision. Some people say the e46 and e39s were the last cars bmw built with great build quality.

My 330d has 415k kms on the clock now. But I'm at a cross roads with it and going to decide when i get back to ct what I'm going to do with it.

Sorry I think I may have got you wanting a 150kw manual :tease: my bad.

Nothing wrong with the 135kw version. They are more reliable. Turbo lasts longer and doesnt suffer from the exhaust manifold cracking.
