E46 325ci stall when starts

Car went for oil change (325 000km). only changed oil and oil filter at the stealership.

now:
Car drives for about 30km, feul is about 80km left. light is on. Im taking an on ramp in full traffic on the R24. im trying to squeeze into traffic on the R24 when car loses power and dies. At first i thought that i stalled the car.

I switch car on, it gets to 1500 rpm and then quickly dies. i start again and gives gas....same thing. a few times after that (5 min intervals) the car starts and dies. anyhoo, i get towed home. 3 hours later, im back at home. start and car starts like there was nothing wrong. i never drive it yet. scared it will breakdown again

ok so wtf. help needed before i take for diagnostic at the stealership. im sure they will say they did nothing on the car and im pretty sure they did not. well i hope they didnt.

Fuel pump is dying. Get a new one.

Put fuel
80km indicated could be as little as 3 liters of fuel.
Or 1 liter
After 16 years the fuel gauge will not/might not be as accurate.

Hi Guys

I will keep you guys updated of the issue.

So, car now drives for about 30min (idling) or 5km and then stalls again. in second gear, revs climbs suddenly and jerking fashion at about 3000rpm. car jumps to 3500 rpm and then sudden drop back to 3000rpm.

i towed it to bmw cos im piss poor at diagnostics/car issues/life in general.
first indication (on/off) is disa flap.

waiting for confirmation/diagnosis.

Get a fuel pump.

feedback:

So car never start two weeks back. completely dead. no turn over.

tested batttery : dead (2 years old)
tested alternator : RIP (16 years old)
changed alternator, charged battery. all ok for now 600km later.
cost me R3950 for alternator and R450 to change it out.

The fuel pump turns on now on ignition.

I will change the fuel pump (16 years) and fuel filter (never changed) next month just to be sure.

You never noticed your Battery light Flicker at all??
When my regulator packed up, It would Flicker ever so slightly and all the lights would dimm out..

Anyway, glad it sorted.
Replace the fuel pump

And word of advice, Please dont run your tank so low. the pump picks up all sorts of Eeeuw from the bottom of the tank
