Hi guys

im contemplating purchasing an E46 318i, 2004/2005 models.. Always loved the styling and design and the drive of the E46..

i have a few questions that i require info on..
1. Whats the maintaince cost on the Car, especially after the car has done more than 100 000km?
Example: Regular Service, Replacing of Brakes, Clutch etc
2. Average Fuel Economy..

i would really appreciate your advise on this..

Lower control arm bushes - R2000 Once or twice from 100000km to 250000km.
Brakes - R2500 depending on driving style every 40000km
Services would range between R800 and R2000 every 20000-25000km.

I've seen a 2003 318 that gave a life average of 14km/l, but that was a doctor's car and was 'carefully' driven..

Dont know about services.

We have a 2005 318i Auto, around town it gets about between 11 and 12 L/100KM and
the other day going down to Durbs I got 7 on the way there and 7.6 on the way back. I recon if i had not driven around in durbs I would have made it there an back 1 tank did 630Km on less than half tank.

The 2000 318i Manual gets average between 450 to 500KM in town, got about 700 the other day mixed driving but mostly open road.

I have a 2003 318i manual, which averages about 8.8L\100km's to work and back and has been as low as 7.9 on the long road.
Went to Vredendal a couple of weeks ago and got 770km's on a tank, which equates to around 8.1L\100km's.
I service the car myself, (which, by the way, is easy), last oil and filter service cost R600-00, no idea on plugs as I havnt changed them yet.
Other than R3400-00 on a set of Dunlop SP6060's all round and a couple of hundred on Meguiars products to keep her shiny, I havnt really spent much else at all.

thanks guys, Nadeem

i will agree with you on that one, i do find the 318i more comfortable to drive than the E90 msport.. especially the seats on the E46 inidividual..

im deciding between a 318 individual or a 325ci.. its just hard to find clean ones

I've had my 2001 318i manual for about 6 months now and it is an awesome car. bit lazy around town, but the face lift I believe has a multi valve 2l instead of the 8 valve 1.9 in the pre-face lift. Got a quote from BMW on an oil service for R1050. Fuel consumption is better than my Tazz

Our '04 318ti auto gets 500km on the tank with AC on round town constantly, I took it to durbs for the day once with 3 of us in the car, saw 800km before the light came on :)

Would love to keep the power at the coast back in it in JHB
