BTW, if the gearbox was swopped, it probably was with an updated one. I have the 6speed and not a days trouble.

LZ, I still say go for a 330d! or just give her the E65, its almost worth about as much as a 320d already...

lol...

I own a prestine E65 (or at least one in a good condition), giving that car to my wife will be very expensive and bad for the car, tis a bit larger then an Golf 5....

I am getting so sick of this whole mess, things move too damm slowly and then I miss out on cars. Should have the finance for the M sorted by tomorrow though, finally. THis private sale thing is hard work.

I am perhaps working on a scheme with a forum member for a certian 330d, but at this point I am considering just buying the wife a 60k megane and calling it a day...

On that note, 9you think the depreciation on the 3 series are bad, have you seen what you pay for a renault megane or any renualt for that matter, 300k new, same car 5 years on... 60k and then it has 60ish on the clock.... WTF. You pay that for a second hand toyota tazz

Place actually had a nice 530d E39 as well as a 2003 E39 540 in good condition as well.. The 540 is going for 90k... which is so damm tempting, but its too big for her, that and a bit too thirsty...

My mistake,

The 530d was going for 90k. http://www.willowcrestmotors.co.za/admin/uploaded_photos/1569_3

THe 540 was going for 130k but it only has 100 on the clock.. I saw both cars from face value and they look neat, did not take a deep enough look as then I would want to buy them, and no E39 for the wifey.....

As for the 525, would love too, lets see what happens with the 330d that we discussed on saturday, if the dude will give me a decent trade in on the E65, I'll take the 330d.

They have a few at the dealership (330d), but I am allergic to the auto boxes, cause I know they will break...

Dude stay clear away from renault! I had a megane and it costed me huge ammo to sort out all the crap it gave me. Not reliable cars and depreciates badly - I will never buy Renault again.

The mum in law has a 2003 migraine and I've used it on plenty occasions. I heard about the complaints from some people, but I never had problems with it except that the tyres got flat spots from it standing too long... 2003 model with 40k odd km on...

Well,

On the renault, I was grabbed on the price... and then I actually went and sat in a few of them, the squeaks, groans, I could tell it was a piece of crap.

A car with 60k on the clock does not sound like that......

So those are out..

That 318 with 180k km on the clock for 100k is rather pricey...
Book is only like 60k now :dunno:

80k is prob what I am going to pay for it, and its one of the best examples that I have seen...

But I hear you, trust me the 20k is nothing in comparison to the money we are playing with on the E65....

I am just going to take what I can get before end of the month.....

I will buy another heavy BMW again, I will, but much later on in its life....

Just get it checked out seriously well before paying, a neglected E46 can be.....

My E46 318 experience was not a nice one, was the shortest ownership of any BMW ever my side.

+1 ^^^
Please check it out uber thoroughly! My 1st car was E46 318. After 7 years of no problems whatsoever, it just started one after the other. It was a Love Hate relationship.
LZ if you are taking it I would say 70-75k max if it's really clean.

Shite dude, if I knew that, I would have baught it, car currently has a holding deposit on it. I actually test drove it...

I am actually not too stressed about the 318. I plan on spending a bit of bucks on it when I get it, complete fluid flush (diff, gearbox, engine, radiator), full cooling system recon. Its a manual.

I am led to believe that these pre facelift motors are bullet proof, barring the cooling system issues.

Tires are good, and spares are so cheap that I might just do a full braking system and cooling system overhaul out of principle anyway.

I am of the firm belief that if you keep a BMW engine lubed and cooled, they will last forever.....

The car has a service history from BMW until end of motorplan (time not km), and then has been maintained by a single garage ever since, so I will phone them today for history on the car. It would appear also as if its a one owner car.

What else do I need to look out for ? LCAB bla bla bla...
