Hi Guys,

Does anyone know of a local source for e39 2001- 2003 headlight adjusters (inside the light housing) - they are freely available overseas but I need them in a hurry - needless to say bmw does not sell them - they want you to buy a complete new light

You cannot get them locally.

eBay is your only option unless you can get them machined which could be costly, and make sure you pay for courier and not via our local post office...

Replacing them is a bitch

Thanks guys - I have already stripped the headlight assembly - I fill them with boiling water, wait 5 min and then the sealant is soft enough for me to pull the lens off.

I have ordered a set of facelift lens covers off ebay and my lights should look like new when finished - I will have to do the same with the adjusters

Cheers

The lense covers are available locally. Even our forum advertisers stock them.

Make sure you get the right adjusters. Pre-facelift and facelift adjusters are different. And whilst you're doing a refurb, why not look at a new set of projectors? Fixing the adjusters will allow you to raise the light beams, but with old faded projectors it won't help much for brightness.

Havent seen the facelift lenses locally, link please :chef:

@Andrew - I may be interested in doing a group order for the adjusters then we can atleast save on shipping. If you are in Gauteng.

Call IPC (011 840 6960)

Ask them for part no IPC63-A2010 , I bought a set from them about a year ago, ask for Trevor.

Hi Guys, I have ordered and received the e39 Facelift headlight adjusters from the UK - I ordered 10 sets so if anybody needs I am selling for R250 per set (a set does one headlight)

Cheers

Hi Chef
Are new projectors available locally? Also, what is the easiest way to tell if your adjusters are broken, without removing the actual light?

Aftermarket projectors are available locally but I would rather import from ECS, and get a product as close to OEM as possible. Try contact some of the forum advertisers. They might have as well.

If your lights are pointing to the ground like right in front of your car, and adjusting them with a screwdriver or hex key at the light itself makes no difference, then they're broken.

If you can grab the light at the bulb socket and move the socket around a lot, they're broken.

If your E39 has over 100k km on the clock, they're most probably broken :=):

Seems my right adjusters on my 2002 E39 M5 are definitely broken, and left not too sure (based on flex available on moving bulb). Dreading this fix, as I'm sure my lights are unbakeable!! :cry:Seems like there 2 options available, one involving cutting, and one that does not, but requires planets to be aligned before you can get it done!

Have contacted IPC for repair kit (hopefully they have in stock) - I am also considering replacing the Xenon bulbs - is there any update on what the best bulb is given technology improvement since 2002?

Thanks and Cheers

What's the production date on your headlight? Take one out and look around for a printed date.

WRT the best build. Osram CBIs get my vote. I think violet electronics has them on the forum for around 4k
