I do wish BMW had made an E39 M5 Touring... Sadly they only ever made one which is kept hidden away

On my second E39 M5 and I have to agree with most comments posted on this thread. It is very difficult to drive any other car once you've driven an E39, particularly the M5. Still "one" of the best cars to own.

personally, i think, given the financial resources i cant thing why it would be so hard to build a e39 m5 touring.

buy a touring 525i auto for say 50-60k
get a donor m5 e39 sedan for say 150k.

everything will go straight accross, except for the following challenges:
1) prop will most likely be longer - not impossible to overcome
2) tossup between rear-self-levelling suspension and something that might
handle a bit better

im guessing such a project can be done for +-300k all in. and shitloads of manhours.

you would have to transplant EVERYTHING.

although the e39 and e46 is same family etc, i think to be honest and yes i am buyest, but the e39 is just a touch more refined and to most seems "too physically big", when you drive one for long enough, they dont feel big on the road when you are driving one.

awesome cars and with the rock bottom prices at the moment there are plenty to choose from (perhaps not manual transmission ones)

i sold my 2001 525i manual with sports suspension and 190 000km for R55000 eventually (took long to sell so i eventually sold for cheap)

i think the amount of car for that money, no open,vw or just about any brand can compare for that amount of money.

E39's are really great value for money these days!

I rarely look through the new car price listings and :yuck:. So look at cars in the 150-200K range...

So for what you could pay for an E39 M5 in good nick... wait for it... you could get:
