E39 525 Oil Usage - Require assistance

I have a 2002 E39 525, 185 000km, which have started to use oil. It consumes around 500ml in 600-700km. The car does not smoke, but definitely uses oil.

Could anyone recommend a person / specialist for an engine diagnoses? I have no idea wether it is head or rings related.

Also, any advice on recon engine versus engine overall would be appreciated.

I am based in Centurion.

Rick540 had the same issue with his E34 M5. Used something like 1L oil every month. He switched to a slightly thicker oil and now has no problems with oil usage.

Try switching to something a little thicker to what you're using now and see if it helps.

First thing I would do is take an look around the engine and make 100% sure you got no leaks. Using that much oil and not smoke does not sound right( i could be wrong).

Gents,

Thanks for all the responses. No oil leaks visible, but have now ascertained that it smokes slightly if I pump the accelerator. I will start with the easiest option 1st .... thicker oil. Bought a can of 15W40 semi-synthetic. If that does not improve the situation, the next step will be to have someone look at the engine. I will keep you posted.

It would be better to do a complete oil change with new filter.

+1.
First thing you should try. Go with the thicker oil and see if it makes any difference. Oil changes are very straight forward to do :)
