so you gonna have to earn a net salary of about R60k a month to buy a 320d...

Not for the 90% of buyers who buy on balloon, residual, lease, guaranteed buy back, fairy dust schemes...

If you buy a base spec unit. I'm sure it will be possible to spec a 320d to R1m, or close.

Having seen the G20 330i in the flesh up close and personal and sitting inside it.. All I can say is.. Wow it is honestly a major step up! Proper classy car now and those lights, they really look awesome up close..

BMW are on a major tech recruitment drive in SA with their new Menlyn offices lots of focus on DevOps, wonder how the local version of the new Personal Assistant will play out here vs the overseas models..

Honestly at 650k for a base 330i, that is not bad at all.. But yes fully specced even a 330i will be very pricey.. Beautiful car though, once you see it for real you begin to really like it.. a lot..

The M340i interests me, but perhaps the new M3 will be one hell of a car (likely hybrid).. Let's see.. :cartel:

Interesting that the 320d is priced so close to the 330i. Either the 320d is overpriced or the 330i is a bargain...

330i is a bargain. It is a four cylinder - would explain the similarity in price. That being said, 190 kW! Same as the E90 330i - 3 litre 6 cylinder.

At these prices, the VW Arteon becomes a major competitor.

320d/330i vs Arteon TDI/R

The TDI is a dog compared to the 320d (the LCI F30, at least).
I drove the same TDI motor in the A4 (though, the A4 has slightly more power and alot more torque compared to the VW tune) and I was disappointed. It didn't feel as responsive and sporty as the 320d. The TDI Arteon is heavier and less brawny than the A4, so I would expect it to be worse, if you are looking for performance.

The Arteon R is another kettle of fish and it does have balls. I would only pick it over a 330i, if it was a low mileage Arteon at a substantial cost saving.

Important to note that VW luxury sedans are perceived to have worse resale than the Big German 3, so buying a new Arteon is financial suicide...
