Update.... got a call on a Sunday morning saying that the cars got a miss and smoking :thumbdo: he said he just got back from a breakfast run with some lambos and ferraris, was doing around 180 kmh in boost and just saw smoke coming from the engine bay, i feared the worst but to comfort him told him it might be a couple of fouled plugs.....i asked him if he tampered with the boost controller and obviously a customer will not say that he did .... picked the car up and took it home, lots of oil around , no oil in exhuast..... to strip or not to strip..... went with my feeling to strip and this is what i found.......
the plugs...

ill post more pics later

excuse my curiosity and my lack of turbo stuffies.. but what would cause that. is it too much boost for the fuel settings.. you know, lean or rich..

Stripped the pistons out, some interesting findings.....

Pistons are not JE as invoice stated, actually Arias , not too much of a train smash but when we checked the part number/casting number on the inside of the piston is a number of an Opel forged piston, also not too much of a train smash coz we have used different forged pistons on different applications BUT these pistons had valve pockets cut... thereby weakening the edges and much less meat going into the first ring landing.

what does the owner have to say about this?

He is cool about it, he understands the risk

More pics of the damage
Head damage

Block damage

What was once a piston

The pistons might have been crap but the rods are top notch... Carillo :clapper:

EINA.. good luck with the rebuild bro..

so what pistons would one use in a rebuild like this and even in a normal 3.0 motor rebuild. I ask out of curiosity..
