I suppose it can to an extent but the MAF cant measure so much air coming in, remember the ecu uses the MAF to measure where as aftermarket management uses Intake pressure and Throttle position

Haltech will run it beautifully and anything else you may add to the motor in future. Connect it to all the motor's sensors and with a good tune it will run the motor like a factory ecu.

lol..... I love the haltech system but the customer does not want to spend that much.

Then he shouldn't be owning a m3 turbo if he's not willing to spend good money on a quality ecu...

@Gizmo...... Thats not entirely true, ofcourse haltech is one of the best but 40k for an ecu is a bit much for most peoples pocket. Anyway, different strokes for different folks....

@moranor... the standard ECU and MAF IMHO cannot handle boost, maybe very little but i dont think so

Haltechs start at 1000$ no 4000$ :/

Looking forward to see what you do to the build.

it is common practice on LS engines to increase Maf size to gain more resolution for boost could you not do similar here?

Doubt ill go that route, dont know much about it, will consult tuner and partner and see which way to go

yep they are expensive, spoke to Mohammed from Turbo and Nos yesterday, he was installing one onto a Supra, he quoted around 40k, there are alot of add ons for the management that dont come in the startup package, sensors etc.

Mo you may wish to have a chat with Ross at RBTS regarding the retention of vanos standard ecu and a piggyback system ....just a thought.

Vanos is good for 30Nm/20Nm on that engine.
I am sure that the turbo will more than compensate however a a good to have at least untill the turbo produces power

It sounds like Mo is quoting you on a Motec system, not a haltech, no pun intended. Chris Dicks from dictator is an official distributor on haltech systems. BruceT on the forum has a haltech in his 328i budget race car build iirc, he most certainly wouldn't have spent 40 on a ecu alone.

Ask Mo how many years supply of ky come with his 40k quote...

Good to know that the owner has chosen to Powerkote the exhaust and not have it with the rusted look.

Gizmo is correct there is no way I would spend R40k on management for my little budget build. I am however using Powermods on my race car which has full vanos control. (excuse my non technical terms) I have no idea if it would work for your application but I cant see why not considering the cars I know who run Powermods.

I also agree that if I had a turbo M3 I would ensure a decent management system is used. Ive been looking for a M3 motor and cannot find them and when I do they are damn expensive - I would hate to think how expensive a turbo'd one, with all the correct groceries, would cost to replace.

Any reason you didn't use the battery cover for its location?

weird carpet material.

No reason, just preference, yes very weird carpet, the car had a sound install which was removed and i guess they couldnt get original carpet .
