E36 M3 Exhaust on an E46 330i

I was wondering if this has been done on a 330i. If it has, were there any gains and what were the issues associated with doing this mod.

Sound? Performance?

I'm sure there is a sound reason that this is not a common or even heard of thing. I would assume it won't fit. Furthermore, I'm sure you might get better gains from getting an aftermarket exhaust, which will probably also be cheaper (considering the condiion of whatever e36M3 pipes you can find).
