Shew, why did he get banned?

maybe he posted something after that has been removed? if not i dont see why he should be banned for this...

Would love to know.

Granted he was controversial, but there must be more than that. He was an old member on here.

Let's get back on topic.

Well I went past my Mechanic today and had my car diagnosed, Engine is sweet!, the noise is indeed the tensioner pulley, and the reason for my loss in power is my Vanos! apparently the vanos needs to be set! and while they diagnose that problem they can see what else is wrong with the Vanos, Seals will more than likely need to be replaced.

We did a test on the motor to check if it smoking at all, nothing, can rev it as you want and no smoke whatsoever comes out and sounds very healthy, I Feel much better right now, although Vanos isnt funny!

Keep us updated. It's not easy trying to diagnose such odd sounds over the internet, but we'll sure try.

I kinda have the same thing with my E30. I know it's worlds apart, but my noise only shows it self during winter when it's proper cold and it would go away after the motor starts to warm up a little. The noise is so close to yours, so I'm very interested to hear what is the cause of it on your car.

Here's mine:

@osiris

when is this sound most frequent? is it all the time? only when cold or only when hot?

is it only during certain rev range? does it go quiet after a certain rev?

Its there when ideling, when you rev it goes away. the car revs properly. but when it goes back to idle it comes back, or low rpm

Not sure, I will only get the car back in 2 - 3 weeks from now, when I get it back if the sound isnt gone from the tensioner pully thats being replaced I will let you know if it makes this sound under load or pulling off slowly etc.

Thanks for showing interest I will definately keep you updates.

I did get the car back, it was just the tensioner pully that was causing that sound, but now there are bigger problems, the clowns that put my engine back together decided that missing 3 bolts on the tappet cover was a grand idea, so oil was leaking all over the place, and then they tell me oh its cause they couldnt tighten the bolts so they just tapped the cover?? WTF are they on fekking crack! They now swapping that cover for a new one with bolts that actually work! or so thats what these guys are telling me!

Then when we put the car on the computer it gave 3 errors, camshaft position sesor, and some fuel system error telling something about cylinder alignment, no idea wtf that means but I am very worried about this car now! so they have it again, they want to replace vanos and camshaft sensor, it might have been crank case sensor I cant remember. The car wouldnt rev up properly , but once it got to 4k rpm it opened up like a deamon on steroids, it was making some serious power!

Will wait back for a call from these guys to see what is going to happen now! and then when I get it back im taking it to somewhere descenet to get this whole engine sorted by a competent mechanic!
