E36 gear change

I'm still a virgin so pls be gentle.

I have been trying to get some info on how the gear changes work on a 92 e36 325i auto. I have noticed on a few occasions that she sometimes has a very smooth almost not noticeable gear change, and on other occasions, just a very slight delay in changing. What or when does the car decide to change gear? Is it related to wheel speed, gearbox revs etc.

Any ideas what this can be?

Im not sure if the E36 auto is similar to the E46 but maybe you can reset adaptions? I know the E46 adapts to driving style and conditions. What is the mileage on the car? Load, speed and throttle position all play apart in the gear shifts.

It's old tech auto. You learn to live with the quirks

Not sure about resetting or anything like that, but will look into it. As for mileage, it has 189k on the clock.

A fluid change might be a good idea, note a change, do not flush the system.
