Try IPC in kyalami bussiness park.

Lots of used parts as well as new and great pricing.

Hey thanks, however I'm in CT..
Anyone have advice on where to look in CT?

In no particular order:

Shamiels BMW Spares (he advertises on gumtree quite a bit and is often the cheapest on used spares, in my experience)
Bruces
Cliftons M3 Center (stock both new and used parts)

Well, got new plugs today and the remainder of the rubber seals..

Couple of pics putting everything back together..

Got a price on a new slip ring from BMW R3500 :thumbdo:
Going second hand price seems to be around R950
Has anyone tried soldering the wires back together? These:

Cheers

Just keep an eye out for one on gumtree.

I found one for R300 out of a car that was being stripped.

So haven't done anything major to the car yet, mostly just small things that need to be done.

The pipe that goes from the breather valve to the dip stick was hanging loose (brittle and broken).. Got one from the agents and replaced it..

Then basically just been fixing all the door cards.
All of them were loose due to the plastic clips either being broken or plastic mountings not being there at all..

door cards off..

got some resin and glued the mountings that were loose..

and good as new..

removed the front passenger side window mechanism, due to being bent..
couldn't bend it straight again. finally found a second hand one today, so will see if i can fit it tomorrow.

cheers,

So its been a while since i posted..
Ive fixed most of the small issues and got the car through roadworthy.

Car went into limp mode a while back and car was stuck in high gear.
Ended up buying a ADS cable and getting INPA to work. Cleared all the codes and we're back up and running.

Still have 3 errors:
1. VANOS Jammed
2. Aggregate or open circuit
3. DME-K0

Error 1. i am assuming is vanos seals that need to be done
Error 2. not sure exactly how to find it, but i know its there because if i don't disconnect the battery it dies.
Error 3. Air con compressor isn't getting power.. relay doesn't "click", not sure what the correct relay is - anyone have a part number?

Anyway, so while trouble shooting all this, i look down and just below the fuse box on top of the "chassis leg" there is a hole, which on closer inspection seems to be filled with water...

So i get a syringe and start sucking up the water..

I couldn't believe how much water came out..

Anyone know how this could have got in there??

Hey guys

So started doing a little work on the car this weekend..

Started with trying to trouble shoot the hooter, checked fuses, relays etc. but nothing.
Took the steering air bag off and theres no power coming through for the hooter.. ended up taking the steering wheel and slip ring off..

Took it apart..

To find the film on the inside is torn..

So this explains why the hooter isn't working, and I'm assuming why the airbag light is showing as well..

Anyway, I moved onto the oil leak..
Got my new gaskets from BMW.

noticed that the rubber bush that goes onto each of the cap nuts were different..

The flat one is what i got from BMW.. checked the part number and seems correct..

While taking things apart i noticed that this was unplugged, seems to be for the vanos..

If this is not plugged in i assume the vanos isn't working??

Tappet cover off.

and old gasket removed. it hard and brittle, broke to pieces..

Gasket was leaking so bad all the plug holes were filled with oil..

decided to remove the plugs to see what they look like..
battle for almost an hour to remove no 4. because some idiot decided to leave an old rubber seal (i assume from a plug spanner) which had now turned hard.. :hammerhead:

plugs look aweful

and 3 of the plug leads are breaking up on the ends..

I then soaked all the nuts and bolts to get them clean and started getting ready to put everything back together but realised that i was short 4 of the rubber bushes.

So covered everything up and will try get the extras tomorrow and finish up.

Does anyone know where the best (cost effective) place to get a new slip ring or is it agents only?

And is the rubber bush that i got from BMW the correct one (flat one)?

Cheers

I paid R450 at Bemows Spares

And is the rubber bush that i got from BMW the correct one (flat one)?

That's what I was given recently at BMW, I guess it's the new design, same part number though.

Blow it out with compressed air and put a plug in it.

yea that's the plan, just worried about how all that water got in there..

Can't believe that with the little bit of rain we have had in CT, that it all got in under the bonnet and ran into that hole..
