So my car went to Bruma Auto on Friday for a service & diagnostics for the vanos solenoid came up 9 times, my questions is....

1) How much is this going to cost ?
2) Where can I get this in SA besides the stealers ?
3) If possible, can I fit dual vanos from an e46 :) - Not gona happen....

TIA :thumb:

duel vanos is completely different to single and you will need to fit a new head and ecu... so not really an option...

try Bosch diesel for the solenoid...

many times it is the CPS (camshaft position sensor) that is the faulty component, this does fail after extended kilos on the clock and then the Vanos does not know where to position itself, maybe it is cheaper to replace the CPS first and retest the vanos again?

yip often a solenoid error is thrown when its not at fault... on duel vanos you can swap the intake and exhaust solenoid to see if the fault follows (not that this helps you)

Maybe you can swap solenoids with someone and see if the fault goes away...

LoL.... don't tell me your vanos is also making a noise

@ Moranor - will your single vanos repair kit work for this kind of problem ? my understanding is the solenoid supplies oil to the vanos....

I don’t have any odd sounding noises. Just the diesel clatter when the car’s cold. The Besiyan systems vanos seals and anti-rattle kits Moranor supplies should take care of the noises. But failing solenoids and Cam Position sensors is something else entirely I think. I haven’t had my codes read yet though, but I’ve learnt to expect the worst so as to prevent a heart-attack :) Besides the car perform fine other than a hole below 2-2.5k rpm. Signs seem to point the the seals…I hope that’s all!!

Read the resistance on the solenoid.

Unlikely that it will faill.

CPS is more often the fault.

repair kit fixes rattle and stops the seals loosing pressure allowing your vanos to operate as it should... it wont fix other problems like solenoid or CPS...

Okay so after a loooooooong wait I finally got my new vanos solenoid switch (part number 11361703720) fitted :woot: & WOW what a difference it makes :excited:

At low revs the power is amazing, the car can accelerate effortlessly in 3rd gear from 20km/h all the way to 140km/h & at higher revs, it just begs to be pushed hard. On the highway, it feels extremely smooth to drive & overtaking in 5th is a breeze

If your vanos solenoid switch is giving you problems, have it replaced :) trust me, it makes a big difference....

Unfortunately can only get it at the stealers :thumbdo:

Shop around because Ermelo & Secunda wanted 3k for it while Bruma Auto wanted 2.5k but theres a 2 - 4 week waiting period because no dealer stocks this....
