"There seems to be no Vanos rattle. Im not sure if the Single Vanos suffered as much as the Double Vanos ?"

The vanos non performance is not only due to the rattle which one can hear it is primarily due to the failure of the internal seals which activate the movement of the inlet camshaft.

The vanos oil pump generates 100bar of pressure and that pressure is controlled by a combination of seals which fail and the vanos becomes "de activated".
The effect of the failure is lack of torque between 2000rpm and 5000rpm.

In the case of the s50b30 and s50b32 engines when the vanos is in need of attention the car is noisy and has a diesel like rhythm......maybe 444YYY can explain it a bit better as we did his unit two or three times and we eventually had to get a new body to resolve the issue it presented.

All the same that car is neat, drive it in good health

Car will be on its way up to Joburg, as soon as I find the time (Its worth the R7k in transport :) )

Dare I ask how much the respray cost? And who did you use?

Hey Bud, I found a Panelshop called auto Magic in montague Gardens, the foreman Wilfred oversaw the entire job, which was awesome (had seen some of his other work) very happy with the spray

Ill put up some more pics soon, just trying to sort out the black strip on teh drivers door. Somebody tried to steal it (must have been disturbed as i only left car out of my site for 5 min) picked up new clips today, but they just wont pop in, so trim not clipping properly in to place :(

As soon as thats done, I will put some pics up :) :)

took her for a nice drive this morning!

That is one of the best engines BMW ever made - its virtually indestructible - I have seen first hand the abuse that that engine can take as a friend of mine has one as a daily driver and there is not a day that goes by where that car is not redlined, drifted or otherwise hammered :) nearly 400,000kms and still strong as an ox.

The body on the other hand is suffering particularly under the rear seat - there is now a multitude of fatigue cracks that are evident and one of the rear shock mounts has torn out and had to be replaced.

Its an epic car and huge fun to drive
