e34 M5 bought (hopefully) - inclides list of E34 M5's in SA

After some car shopping yesterday, have just extended an offer on a 1991 e34 M5..........colour is metallic dolphin, not a colour that one sees every day.......car will need some work, will post pictures of as is as soon as offering is accepted, and the car is on its way to me

Carefull of them words , I said that R80000 ago and I am not done yet.

So this one is BB77037 ? Production date 1991/04

Last one made here I think was BB77265 and mine is BB77214, and that white one in JHB (on the midnight run) was BB77212.

Interestingly BMW SA continued the BB numbering scheme of the M5 with the 72 540i/6's they made, I spotted that on Nick's car.

Spot on with the numbers and production date! Interesting question did they start at 000? or 001? So are there 265, 264 or 266 cars in total?

Started at 000 and ended at 264 = 265 in total

Good buy .If 265 were made hown many are still alive ? Coisman....?
I suppose it is a mission to find out how many are still registered as it is most likely registered as 5 series .

@ Raybimmer - I would love to know but they are registered as 535i's, 525i's, 540i's and everything else thats possible, even my insurance docs say " BMW M5 (M50)"

@ Cois - Do you have any idea why the NATIS system never had "M5" on it at the time?

Cois can you search by last 7 digits of chassis numbers starting with BB77000 I really would love to know both how many M5's and 540i/6 are still alive?

Now that would be intersting to know.......how many are still out there...know of one in Randburg that is not mobile, can only be a handful still driving.

In 1991 looked in Auto Digest only 147 were sold.....
