E 36 M3 3.2 Shocks not fitting

Hey guys.

As the title states. I bought monroes for my car but the front strut is touching the inner wall of the tyre. The parts nos are 16639 and 16640. I also changed the shock mounting. Can anybody please advise?

Stupid Question: are you sure that's the right part?

Let me know I could pop down and check the part numbers are correct.

well some wheel spacers should fix the problem, but they should fit... maybe you were given the wrong part?

can you compare the new strut at full extended length to the old one?

Yeah. Did that today. The new sturt is thicker then the old. Took them back to Midas. They will let me know on monday. Thanks guys.

I also think maybe they supplied you with the wrong shocks. I think the Motorsport/Individual & M3 use the same shocks and springs (I could be wrong) but according to Monroe the code for the front should be E7034 and the rear E1114, these are the shocks recommended for E36 BMW's with a Motorsport suspension.

I paid R1445 for each front and R945 for each rear. Will see tomorrow what they say about it. The sales Guy was adamant he supplied me correctly.

I haven't gotten my shocks as yet but roughly its about the same price as what you paid.

Ok so I spoke to Kyle and the shocks that they supplied are correct. The part numbers and everything match. I'm so confused now. Could my tyre be wrong? I have dunlop 225/45/17. The space from the shock spring perch to the tyre is less then a finger space on my freinds m3 theres like 2 finger space.

Is the wheel offset stock?

Yes stock rim. Maybe my dunlops are defective the side walls are larger then normal. Cause my spare is a goodyear and that fits the monroe strut fine.

That could very well be the issue as I have seen several tires that are supposed to be the same size are actually quite different.

Most run 235 up front without issue, but sizes can vary alot. Maybe a combination of that and the strut being thicker. I still have my OEM struts at the garage if you want me to measure.

I know this might sound stupid, but my 225/45 are wider (just by looking from above) incomparison to my 235/40. Also after I put my 225 on, the front tyres touch something on full lock. Rather annoying, but I have the wrong tyre size after all.

Guys the problem is not the width. Its the height of the tyre its too tall. Maybe this is a reject tyre.

Lev isn't your rims non staggered i.e not narrows and wides ? your car got the M Contour 1 rims if I'm not mistaken which all of them are 8J. The M3 and M Contour 2 rims are staggered, the front being 7.5J and the rear 8.5J.

Interesting, are you gona change tyres now ?
