HI guys im stuck with a weird problem, everytime i put my foot on the accelarator there is a funny sound coming from the engine bay, almost sounds like a duck, someone said i could be my pcv vavle that needs to be repalced as it is a common problem on the E46. Do you guys think it could be the pcv valve? And what does a pcv valve for a 320i go for

Whats a PCV valve ?

PCV valve is part of the vacuum system for the engine crankcase. If its leaking you will have no vacuum and the car will be heavy on fuel and will idle roughly. On the e46 sixer you remove the intake manifold and you will see the plastic PCV attached to the underside of the manifold itself - next to the idle valve. Three flimsy looking plastic pipes run from the PCV to the engine - these could also be the fault.

You can do this one yourself.

raptor i had this weird sound when i accelerated from the engine bay in my e46 it sounded like a weird chirpy squeel hard to explain anyways could never find the problem and then found my lower intake boot was torn on the elbow and replaced it and ive never had the noise since i dont know if it was related to that i think mayb on acceleration the air sneaking in through the hole was creating a weird whistle or something lol anyways have a look at yours stick your hand in behind the intake boot and feel for a tear might jus be that :) good thing is its 180 rond from the stealership not bad at all
