No. That is a GL4 transmission fluid. You need the Syntrax. It is a GL5 differential fluid. The two have different additive packages suited for their respective applications.

So its best to get the GL5 differential fluid then?

Yes, as stated above. Castrol Syntrax 75w90.
Syntrax = differential Gl5
Suntrans = transmission GL4

Hi all

I’m planning on doing a transmission oil change on my BMW 220d (B47). I’m looking at changing out the diff oil for the first time as well. Just wanted to know if it’s recommended to stick to 75w85 OEM from dealership or if there’s an as good alternative? I’ve seen talks above bout Castrol syntrax but needed to clarify. If all else fails I’ll just buy the pricey oil at R750 a bottle for 500ml
