Diff what?????

Just received a call from my mechanic saying that my diff shoes are kaput? What are the hell are those? He was fitting rear wheel bearings.

Yeah I just spoke to him again, it's for the handbrake. But that's not a train smash, he made it sound like it was a diff mounting or something...
