Hey all!!

I am about to embark on a long drive to the Eastern Cape and want to give the 320d a sevice before I go. I have been searching but cant seem to find much in the way of a DIY in doing a service on an e46 320d. Was gonna change the oil and maybe the filter/s? Can anyone give me a link to a DIY for this vehicle? Its an 02 if this matters.

On my petrol cars I sorta knew what to do but I am still getting to know the diesel.

Thanks guys!!

No clue mate - never even owned a diesel BMW, nevermind serviced one.

Pay special attention to the flux capacitor though.

Filters fron the agents. Straigt forward like a petrol car. Oils is 5W40. Your choice of brand, but I use Castrol as per BMW instruction, although very few people have faith in the castrol.

Cool thanks Hellas, so the oil filter is in the same place as a petrol motor, and the diesel filter is where the petrol filter would be? Is it nessesesary to change the diesel filter in an oil service?

Nope and nope.
The diesel filter is hidden a bit deeper, by the tank if I remember correctly.
This wone does not have to be changed with an oil service.

Why not get filters from midas or autozone? Should you use an oil for diesel vehicles?

Buy either Castrol Edge 5w40 with an LL04 or LL01 or LL98 spec or SHell helix Ultra 5W40 with an LL04 spec IIRC. Don't bother with anything else, get a 5W40 with the LL spec, LL98 is sufficient for your car, the LL01 is a newer spec and the LL04 is the newest AFAIK. (Check the back of the bottle for the spec.)

Midas will give you a filter for almost the same price as the dealer, so no reason to cheap-out here. Goldwagen had the best prices on the oil last time I checked.
