Dealership praise/horror stories

My BMW dealership experience in Windhoek.

On leaving Halali in Etosha, the Mini complained about brake pad wear. I thought this is strange as I had replaced the pads before leaving Cape Town. I thought ok, I will take it easy until I get to Windhoek where the closest BMW agent is. Dan-Ric BMW.
On arrival I explained the situation. Don't worry sir we will take care of the problem.

They inspected the brakes and found no problems and said it is probably the accumulated dust from the dirt roads in Etosha. They then sat me and my wife down, brought us coffee and muffins took the car and gave it the valet treatment which sorted the problem out.

Brought the car back and said "No charge Sir, enjoy the rest of your holiday". Must have been the BMWFanatics cap and sticker on the back window. Excellent service from a BMW dealership.

Big kudos to Dan-Ric BMW in Windhoek!!!

Booked car in for tomorrow for handbrake adjustment at Club Motors Berea for tomorrow. Be interesting to see what the experience will be like...

So went in for handbrake adjustment. Initially they checked and said all was fine. Then showed them what I meant about the handbrake only holding when the car rolls slightly. They then said the brake shoes could be worn. As I'm no longer in motorplan they suggested it was not essential to replace. I tend to agree with them. Good to see they won't just replace parts to make money.

I service my 323i E90 at Midrand, never had a problem but it is like dealing with a robot, everything is done strictly by the book with no personal touch. Unless you get the hot girl on the F1 side to help :)

I had a steering wheel pump replaced at Forsdicks on rivonia road and it packed up after 2 months. When I returned to them for the warranty claim they made it seem as it was my fault and didnt even want to listen to the problem. After taking it for a test drive, the service technician said it was a normal BMW sound (what a dummy). He then proceeded to convinve me that the car was fine. I bet you bottom dollar that if it was out of warranty, they would have said that the power steering pump needed replacing.

well after a bit of a fight, they are now replacing it but now all of a sudden, my suspension struts need replacing and bushes ans shafts and pulleys. These F&**(&%*^ are just out to make a quick unwarranted buck and not to help the drivers.

Ive had my E36 drop top serviced at a few BMW Dealers out of Motorplan. Cant say that Ive been too pleased with the service and yes, I have relayed this to BMW after they called me for a follow up CSI.

JSN - took my car there - Paid over R10 000 for full bumper to bumper. Steering wheel pump replaced, full service, elec window serviced, soft top serviced. This included my oil btw (I like my Castrol 5W40)
My gripes:
Looked like they had left something heavy in the boot cos my floorboard came back warped?
The softop was not sorted out, yet they said they did their best? (got stuck opening). Wynburg Auto Trimmers sorted out in 2 days!
My powersteering started screeching 1 week later - took it back and they found out some clips werent put in...charged me another +/-R1000 for that!
The windows went back to squeaking and rolling uo/down at a slow rate.... JSN, never again.

JHB City - Took my car earlier this year, Feb 2010. Decent service but had to go back to nag about a few issues that they didnt know what I was talking about. Wrote my car off 2 weeks later so I dont know if the +/- R8000 I spent there was worth it.

Lyndhurst Auto - oh God, where do I start with these guys. My car had been in 2 accidents, both times taken to them, 1st at their old premises, then at the new premises.
1st time, anti rollbars popped. Was told that the plastic window was warped but would return to natural shape. 6 months later - still the same. Idiots didnt tell me it was the material around the window that was stretched. therefore, window would never come straigt.
The steering wheel wasnt aligned. They couldnt fix it??? TWT did alignment and HEY, what do you know! Perfect.
The car kept stalling after beig driven a few hours. Had to sleep in it once - got stuck early hours of the morning with it. Turns out the earth wasnt properly connected. Happened twice with them.
Second time car went for a complete respray. I wanted the e46 thin boot spoiler and asked for one to be incleded. I was told to go to Autostyle! f@ck that, everything on my car is OEM. if that was the case, I would take my car to some Pora to spray in his back yard. Anyway, I bought the spoiler and gave to them.
Car came back with wrong ariel base. They insisted it was the correct antennae base. After a few days of argueing, they eventually admitted they broke the orig during removal and replaced it. No refund / orig replacement btw.
My 328i badge was missing. When asked where it was, I was told it looks better without it! I insisted it be put back - done.
Took it back a month later. Few problems. Broken softop bracket, bad spraywork patch on bonnet, uneven spray on mirror.
They call me back 1 week later to collect car - nothing done! How was it finished?
Went back the second time to collect. All sorted. Driving home, aircon stuck on hot - wont switch off. Was told the next day these things happen. I took no for an answer since it was clear that my aircon / heater controls were swapped. I know my car well and that wasnt my unit. I had a deep scratch on 1 end, this one didnt.
And, the broken bracket that was "fixed" ...was glued. Came loose 1 month later. No energy left to complain to these guys. - Lyndhurst Auto Bodyshop .... never again.

Pls excuse the veeeery long rant...still get worked up lol.

Best service Ive received BTW was Rob Green - great service and proper job. He should run a BMW Franchise IMHO.

Midrand offered great service for parts and fitting as well.

The Glem was very good too.

Hi Guys

I recently bought a 135i, took it auto alpina in boksburg to do the change of m/plan ownership and at the same time they did their 20 point check and reprogrammed the ecu, i fetched the car later that day and as i opened the door my windows opened half way and my lights (exterior and interior) started to flash!! So naturally i scratch my head and wondered WTF was going on!!
I went back in and asked them to have a look... it turned out to be a setting problem but quite helpfully sorted it out within a couple of minutes!!

If you guys are ever in the area... Pinnacle Auto - Secunda, man what a pleasure it is to deal with these people, Danny, Suellen, Pieter, Johan and Arnoux.

When servicing - When Buying [/u]- I will never buy a BMW at any other dealer beacause of the extra mile Pieter, Danny and Johan always walk to make things go smooth. I mentioned in another thread the absolute amazing service that I received from these guys. If this is the future of BMW, I will be a BMW owner for life! For sales they work country wide. PM for details if anyone is in the market.

Hi all,
so I had to take my baby for service on friday. just under 90,000km ...service due in 450km
Took it to Leo Haese in Hatfield, where I ALWAYS take her. :thumb:
So when I booked her in I asked them to just check out the starter,
cause its makes a funny screaching sound on cold startups. :mmm:
I sat and waited as it was a F1 service, they did:
1. Air filter
2. Fuel filter
3. Oil filter
4. Cockpit air filter
5. Plugs
6. Oilchange
7. New Wiper blades.
8. Degrease/regrease of all locking mechanisms.
9. Brake pads front
10. brake pads rear
11. New ABS sensors all round
didn't check the price on all that :dunno:

and after about 45minutes...
"Sir we have to replace your starter." :banghead:
Lucky I still have motorplan, even if my baby is 7 years old, so I say "ok, go ahead"
"Sir we have to authorize and order from Rosslyn, so can you bring her back on monday?" :censored:
No problem... So today I'm back there, and ask them to check everything, :thinker: as my motorplan expires on 27th October.
The mechanic appointed was a guy called Hendrik, now I'm not gay but Man!!! What a nice guy.

List of everything done today to my baby:
1. Inspection using diagnosis and information system
2. Charging battery
3. Romoving and installing of starter
4. Replacing bearings of both front wheels
5. Replacing of both front wheel hubs
6. Replacing wheel bearings of both rear axle shafts
7. Removing and installing of thermostat.
8. Replacing of coolant system hose (leaking)
9. Replacing of coolant liquid (antifreeze)

ALL PARTS SUPPLIED CARRY A 24 MONTH WARRANTY.

total: R14,121.52
I have to pay... R0.00 :dropjaw:

Now if you take the last 12 months...
They did the following:
1. Alternator +/- R15,000
2. Water pump +/- R7,500
3. tensioner pully + new cambelt +/- R5,500
4. Steering rack + lower control arm bushes +/- R12,000
5. New shocks +/- R10,000
6. New Clutch +/- R13,000

That's the reason I love motorplan.
I know the dealers has a huge markup, fact is I paid R0.00 for everything. :excited:

Also, Leo Haese Hatfield is the absolute Kings of service.
:pimp:
Mmmmm...
Maybe they always treat me good cause they scared i might "Skiet die bliksems!!" if they don't??? :dunno:

It still had the original shocks in... 7 years old.
I took the car to Speedy, and Supa quick before taking to bmw.
Obviously they both gave me reports stating my shocks need replacing, thinking i am going to do it there.
So I had to rant a bit, cause the mechanic at bmw said they still fine.
I showed him the 2 reports, and told him the shocks are 7 years, and 90,000km old, I WANT NEW ONES!!!
So they said ok.

Ok,
so on thursday last week I booked my car in for a squeeking/chirping noise on cold starts. :censored:
I had to take the car there yesterday, and they wanted me to leave it there over night.
Now me working the way i do, and with kids that has to be taken to school,
and a wife that has to be taken to work, seeing I only have the 1 car,
I told them monday morning to cancel the booking, seeing they cant give me a courtesy car. :cursin:
The reason they didn't have a courtesy car was that one of the drivers wrote it off. :slap: :hammerhead:
ok, so today René at Leo Haese calls, saying they will have a car for me on the 19th, :excited:
so I don't have to worry, and she is sorry for the inconvenience about monday.
So once again...   to Leo Haese Hatfield.
:pimp:
Remember, my car is 7 years old, and my motorplan expires on the 27th of October 2010,
and I still get top notch service as if my baby was new.
