I would stay far away. There is nothing in these cars that are cheap to fix. You will end up paying a fortune to get it in the condition it deserves to be. The vast amount of electronics in these cars will cost you a boat load of cash to fix. Non of the items on these cars are easily sourced locally.

We are talking about a car that has indicator globes costing R500 each. Just walk away.

But it could be stripped and sold as spares.

Even more so as you said spares are hard to come by.
This is true.

But you will need a place to park and strip it, and big ticket interior items are most def damaged by water. The gearbox also sounds shot and likelyhood of the engine also being damaged is very good.

I would be one of the first people to buy items BUT, this is an extremely large risk to take.

True too.

As others have said I wouldn't go near it unless all paperwork checks out and the price very low.

Pravesh he prob had water in the engine..the OP is implying that this car had a window left open.

look sometimes you get good deals but ja...you would need to know the crank was good atleast & then get it for chips..then you're good. The engine will fetch a pretty penny...ive picked up a few great deals because of taking the risk to be honest & i still have 3 of them parked in my garage. Would love to know what he would let it go for. License behind is fine if paperwork is in order..

If not stolen or bank owns etc, surely with water damage and even no gearbox there is more than R50k in parts? V10 e46, please someone here do it. Will BMW ever even make a v10 again?

I would most definitely consider it at that price, provided the paperwork is up to scratch.

If a repair is not viable then the money can be recouped from parting out for spares.

Getting the money back in the event it can't be repaired is the most important thing, wasted time and effort will be forgotten after a while.

Been talking to owner to try get him to say what lowest he would take is but he hasn't said yet. He says tho he has all the papers for the car.

Owners manual and service books included. Also I did a check and no finance on the car and waiting to see what police report says. I'm still interested to see what he would take for it..
