Why do you need to reset timing?
Roughly 6 hours labour (when done cleanly) and (4 hours when rushed and slapped together) with a rate from R500 ph to R1200ph.
Timing can only go off if cams are interfered with or the chain stretches massively.
I would be sceptical of their diagnosis if the engine has not been messed with by someone else
