Cost P/Km

Good Morning Guys,

I have a fairly newer model f30 and which has 36k on the ODO, What im looking for is a way to determine what is the cost of driving the car from a maintenance plan perspective per KM. I read somewhere on the web that its roughly R3 p/km

What im trying to determine is whether is cheaper to drive to cape town with my car taking the cost of the maintenance plan used p/km and fuel etc or take a flight and rent a car for my family.

It's always cheaper to drive than to fly and rent a car.

If its a family then drive. If you going alone fly.

Flying will cost more if more than two people. So if you are taking your family, driving will be cheaper. Assuming you will be departing from Jhb? Which F30, diesel or petrol?

I had to go to Cape town last September. Being 5 of us, it was way cheaper to drive, even in my 3.6 V6. I didn't mind the long drive, as I have a tendency to never just drive straight to my destination, when on holiday. I always work out a route, and stop over.

I left PTA, stopped in bloem for a visit by my cousin, left the next day, and instead of taking the N1 straight, I turned away at Beaufort West. Drove to George, spend two days there, then drove to Somerset west, and spend another day there. took me another 2 days drive back, as I first went to drop my aunt off in Upington. Its not a holiday if you drive straight and rush to your destination.

If I travel alone, I will fly.

:withStu: I also would not drive 12hrs straight. Make one or more stop overs, there's such a lot to see especially using back routes and staying in small towns (which normally equals cheaper accommodation). This will be part of your holiday. My wife and I have done before, and we really enjoyed it.

BTW hope you don't have young kids that you going to take on a 12hr drive...
