Coolant light help

Hi, on my 520D 2016 model my coolant light came on last night. Read the manual, it says it must be topped up with water and another mixture, which the don’t specify in the manual. Can I top up with water or can anybody recommend the right mixture. Should I take the car in to have it checked. I’m away from home and must travel 2000km this week.

Go to BMW and buy the antifreeze, then dilute to a 50:50 ratio.. If you really are in a jam and don't need to top up too much, you can just fill with water.. Note that you will be diluting past the 50:50 point and you will have to balance out with pure antifreeze at some point.

Thanks, I’m not close to a BM Garage. Went local and purchased Castrol Antifreeze. Garage attendent poured  about half a litre in and topped the balance  with water.

If you've got 2 different kinds of antifreeze mixed, I suggest you flush The system as soon as you back home and fill it with the correct antifreeze mixture. Mixing antifreeze can change the chemical properties of it and cause damage in the engine

Thank you Zero14, I certainly will, I bought Castrol the first time, and then Engens generic brand while travelling home from holiday.
