Considering buying 2013 125i f21

Maybe my 125i was shit, engine did blow at 50k km so who knows. I did not rate it as a fast car at all. Not compared to the E82 135i I had later on. For fuel economy there is no way it will be anywhere near a 135i coupe's consumption. I averaged 550km a tank and same driving style 300km for the E82.

A friend of mine had a E90 320d and I could not keep up with him at all. His car was also stock.

Absolutely agree here, there must have been something awfully wrong with it. Mine (F20) it's sixth year, gives me way more than 550km city driving on a tank. Car is on 106k km, and only now I'm experiencing some minor unspecified rattles that I'm having checked out (well, only really investigated this morning). Other than that, car smokes GTI's routinely!

I currently have a 2015 F20 125i, I literally just got it back from a service. Car has 42k kms currently, thankfully they replaced the timing chain and all the necessary parts that go along with it.

So I should be in the clear now but who knows. My Motorplan expires in May and I am currently looking around for an aftermarket service plan/warranty to help cover the costs for servicing and maintenance.


I dont have any gripes besides the fuel consumption, I also average around 11 despite driving miss daisy.

I love the car and with a few mods it can be a proper sleeper. I personally would have loved a 135 but to find one that hasnt been hammered is nearly impossible.

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and very close to buying a 2013 bmw 125i with around 95000km on the clock.

I've read about the timing chain issues and the resulting engine failures and would like to know if this is a major concern?

The car is also very basic, no Msport, no xenons or sunroof etc, should i rather consider paying the extra 60-70k to get one with the features and a newer model say 2014/2015 or is it not worth it for the price increase?

I wouldn't touch an N20 car I was looking myself and the number of things that needed replacing to give me peace of mind about stuff not going wrong was just so not worth it.
