Listen to the turbo sounds from now on and I hope you told the guy that took your back box off to keep it around for future. The reason I say that is because when I removed my back box from my 330d was when shit started going wrong with my turbo...The down pipe and decat makes the turbo over spool allot already which gives you that faster response, but when you remove the back box as well then your almost running a straight pipe and this made my turbo over spool like a frikken tornado and eventually my turbo exploded into about 6 pieces with a very loud bang and a volcano worth of smoke.
Now I am not saying that this was the exact reason that my turbo exploded like that, but as far as BMW was concerned and allot of other places I had diagnose my car all of them were quite certain that my exhaust setup had caused my turbo to over spool and led to its destruction. (BMW said that this was 100% the reason for the failure!) I am just relaying the report I got from them to you.
Other people have been running similar setups for quite a while with no problems but that might just be because these turbos don't break that easily and its just a matter of time or there cars still have relatively low mileage, it also depends how aggressive the software is on the car and of course how you drive it.
Many will argue that No back pressure is the best thing for a turbo car but a diesel boosts higher pressures than petrol cars by far, So the turbo spools up and down allot faster and thus heats up much faster, heat causes the turbine blades to expand and in turn touch the housing leading to a catastrophic failure.
I am just giving a word of caution, maybe hook the car up to software that can monitor your turbo under normal and aggressive driving conditions to see how its behaving, better to be safe than sorry, it was a FOKKEN expensive ordeal for me. you end up replacing lots of parts.
But other than that, its looking seriously hot, looks very similar to the tips I had put on my 330d.
There are many many people who are running full freeflow exhausts with downpipes bigger than he has on his car. You gain the most from the downpipe. And the turbo is running off exhaust gasses it can't over spool from having no backpressure only spool quicker. And the minimal extra heat generated from the quicker spool is more than likely negated and then some from the extra cooling from the downpipe.
I wouldn't trust a word bmw says. They are just part fitters. Nothing else. Theit process is it could be this let's change it. Not that ok. Let's change this. Until you're driving a new car.
