Even if it's a brand new battery - could still be faulty? With the crap we get sold these days :cry: Could there be a short draining the power? My old corsa had a short and it drained the battery..

Had my car in for service ... drove about 2 weeks car started fine and all

Then last week I switched the car off and it wouldn't start
Jump started it with jumper leads and it ran fine

Switched off --> NOTHING

Checked battery and found the connectors being not fastend :argh:

All good now

I am trending to think its the ignition barrel, ie no contact in the "start" position, or the starter motor has a loose wire.

as you mention sometimes "no crank" at all......... a flat battery will still give a hint of trying to crank, followed by a lot of "chatter" of solenoids as the voltage gets too low for cranking...but you say all electrics are OK except no cranking....

that tends me to believe that the ignition barrel or a possible loose wire.

but I could be wrong

Connectors all fastened. I just don't understand how it could start and not start and then start again within a period of 30 minutes?

Ignition switch? :fencelook:

I think you're on to something, Ralf :thumbs:

A lose battery terminal would normally allow turning ignition on, but as soon as load is created ie trying to crank it would generally drop all electrics out totally.

Chef... If it was my car I would start looking at the starter solenoid... From your description above it has only given kak when warm or hot...

Not exactly. I didn't include the entire story :sorry: Just one or two of the scenarios...

But no, it can give problems when cold too.
