After all I've just spent on the car, she decided "it's that time of the month" and has now sprouted an oil leak :argh: Common problem for E39??? I haven't been driving her hard lately...

Please help :cry::cry::cry:

Is it engine oil or atf oil?

It looks like engine oil. If it was over filled, is it possible to only leak a week and a half after the service?

Noticed it last night. Moved the car to another spot and it leaked again. Moved it again and left it overnight. No spill this morning :fencelook: 'n spook in die enjin?

Not unless I lift the car up which I haven't had time to do. Can see it's wet underneath but can't pinpoint. Can't see anything if I look under the bonnet. No space for anything in there...

I had the same problem, eventually found the culprit -
It was the oil breather pipe, it was perished beyond recognition, replaced it and problem solved.

I think the only way you will be able to determine where it comes from, is get under the car, remove the splash plate and look up her skirt lol:fencelook:

But usually, it's the power steering pipes that tends to leak 1st:thumbdo:

Eish. Trying to organize a 2 ton jack so I can get under there tonight

Good luck, keep us posted and take some pics for other forums members that might run into the same problem.

I only took a pic of what the pipe looked like, will post it tomorrow:thumbs:

Hmm just a thought could it not be leaking when the engine is on and the oil is circulating and with pressure coming out from one of the seals hence nothing leaking when car is parked. Check your oil cooler pipes.

HAs the car just been serviced ?

Check the Oil Drain Plug Seal first. Often this is not changed when an oil Service is done and could be the problem.

Not the seal on the Oil Filter, There would be a seal on the Oil Drain Plug also.

When I bought my parts, inside the oil filter package there's a drain plug washer and new oil filter seal?

Or am I missing something here?:slow:

Correct, however the last GUD filter I bought for my Z3 came only with the Oil Filter Seal. I had to buy the Oil Drain Plug Seal seperatley.

Sometimes Service centres just use the Old Seal and this could be the case. Hence I asked if the car was recently serviced.
