Looks like the high pressure fuel pump finally went for a ball of shit, and it was meant to go in to the workshop today to have it replaced before it gets worse. Well needless to say I should have brought it in one day earlier, so my own fault for delaying.

On site of breakdown I tested for fuel delivery purely out of suspicion that the pump had finally died. I confirmed it by testing via the leak off pipe. Now, I need to decide if I am going to tow it to the workshop or work on it at home. Still needs the service and belt to be done, and I'm guessing workshop would be easier...

Towing is expensive though. Already used the free AA assist I have with FNB to get it home, but they will not tow from home as it's not considered a "breakdown".

Car trailer? Will the 5er, it's tugboats and air spotter all fit on a car trailer? And what the hell do I tow a 2.2 ton load with if the beemer is usually what I use to tow?

:(

Cant you tow using the rear tow hook? I mean, the tower car fit his tow cable on the rear bumper, and the towee car fit he tow cable to the front bumper? How far is the workshop from your home?

Around 45km.

This would mean I need to disconnect the propshaft and I'm not in favour of that. I've seen an auto being towed with a disconnected propshaft and something came loose and tore right out of the car on the highway. Not worth the risk.

Keep forgetting about the hassles of towing an auto...

Give centow a call. They are reasonable with their prices. I have always used them. With the x5 that spent most of its time on a truck it never cost more than 850.

Well I got a HPFP, so will fit that at home tomorrow, then drive the car to the workshop to do the rest. Doesn't look like I will need towing anymore.
