Damn that's expensive. I saw the price on ETK is listed over $1100. Just imagine the pain on a 760i since it has two of those priced at over $2300 each :-(

Well I got a HPFP, so will fit that at home tomorrow, then drive the car to the workshop to do the rest. Doesn't look like I will need towing anymore.

:chef:

are you talking about the pump on the engine?
that one that cost 27k new?

That's the one. High pressure fuel pump. Actually 29.5k from BMW :slow:

I have one in my garage. remember the car you and gordon went to?
that 530d with 166 k km that was being parted last year?

I bought the headlights off gordon, gordon bought the headlights off that car.
you bought the alternator off that car, i bought your alternator off you and its in
my car right now.

i have the high pressure pump, turbo and aircon compressor, yes you guessed it,
from THAT car.. haha

looks like i should hang onto it... my car currently has just under 303 000km

I'm guessing my 2006 330d uses the same pump?

You guess correct. BMW used the same HPFP on pretty much all diesel models.

Anyways, small update of work in progress:

New HPFP fitted. Slight problems arising now:

  • Glowplug light with DDE warning not disappearing after ignition is switched on
  • Above warning goes away after a while of driving, but returns if the car reaches boost
  • Car is boosting only at around 3000rpm (very late)
  • Should the car reach boost, the engine becomes noisy and ticks very loudly. If the car doesn't reach boost, the engine remains quiet
  • Brakes are very hard after first pump

Trying to get someone out here to unlock the engine management system (I think?) as we cannot do diagnostics due to a block caused by the file the tuners loaded.

Okay...

The 18 month long diesel leak is finally gone. New high pressure fuel pump is in. Some new pipes and connectors were fitted seeing as some broke whilst the work on the car was done. One rubber pipe was beyond brittle; it was rock hard to the point that we had to break it off the connectors, and it wouldn't even crush when I stood on the thing.

Service done; fan belt replaced as well. Previous one was only on for a year and already cracked to hell and gone. Dunno why. Perhaps the new belt being 5 times the price of the old one explains that...

Now with regards to my previous post of the problems this morning, some good news and some bad news: good news is that the "glow plug DDE" warning light (determined by Nikfoef to be an engine warning light) is no longer prominent after startup, and that the car is now boosting when it should and driving better than it has in a long time.

The bad news is that the warning light will come on as soon as I plant my foot down. The car then also immediately experiences power loss like I had this morning (not exactly full on limp mode but enough to irritate a person). This is then reset back to normal when I switch the car off and on again.

I have also noticed a humming sound coming from around the passenger side footwell area when ignition is on. It has pointed out to me that this might be a damaged in-tank fuel pump or maybe low pressure fuel pump, caused possibly by compensating for the damaged HPFP. Makes sense to me, but how many more pumps do I need to replace after all this?

The engine is also taking ever so slightly longer to fire up now when swinging compared to before. Related to the supposed other half a dozen fuel pumps that might need replacing?

Thoughts?

And last but not least, a massive thumbs up and thanks to Gert from OBDWorx for coming out firstly yesterday to deliver a connector I needed urgently, and again today for the assistance with the diagnostics and input. And to everyone else for all the info and guidance so far. I may seem and act like a foef but I really am highly appreciative and thankful for all the assistance and support.

It's a pleasure Tjef. Let's look at those codes again after pushing the car. It may just glean a little more insight.
