Hi Guys ,

My Car is a 2002 E46 318i Automatic N42 engine.

Well this is my issue . Tonight well last night, 11/12/2012 There were some heavy rains in Durban. Driving from Pavs towards Parlock , on the N2 i take the off ramp to Parlock. (this is where there's some heavy construction while building that new flyover bridges close to makro.)

Well it was dark, Pouring rain, Couldn't really see much besides the car in front of me tail lamp and the bus next to me due to my windshield being soaked in water" (Wipers did not help much) , There is this Intersection, Unknown to me This intersection was relatively Flooded, I mean ive never driven through such deep water before.I didnt see the water and drove right into it. With a big splash. :flyfun:

Before I could do a thing, Here I was Sitting in the middle of the intersection crawling through water . When Swoosh, the bus moves past me sprays water all over the car and all windows in the car mist up instantly. My air-conditioner was on at the time (Fixed in 2010, no idea what was wrong) . Put on the demister Fan button and nothing worked.

Rear window demister worked but the rest of the windows were still misted up. Normally the car would demist the windows within a few seconds. (had to wipe window by hand to clear the mist)

Once I had reached my destination,Stopped the car, Checked for any damage (nothing noted) opened the bonnet , Seems there's a bit of a muddy (not heavy mud) more like dirty water splash all over .

Started the car , Everything seemed normal , no issues or noises from the engine, Pressed the Aircon button and i hear this terrible noise now coming from the engine bay. as well as some squeaking noise.

My Air conditioner has again stopped working :argh:

Could water have damaged some part of the air conditioner? Through Splashing or anything of that sort? The water was high. Around I think above the door-sill for a bit, No water had entered the car.Alot of water did move over the bonnet/windshield when the bus passed me, But it did feel like I was driving through a river at the front but only for a few seconds. The drive back home was as normal, engine quiet,no power issues , besides the lack of air conditioner and the Humming sorta loud noise when i click the button. and this squeaking noise when i press the accelerator peddle.

What could have happened? :bangdesk:

The bus could have pushed a large amount of water into the bonnet vent and soaked the microfilter for the aircon, that would cause the windows to mist up quickly. As for why it may not be working, check fuses and make sure the clutch spins/stops when it engauges/disengauges, check the belt and pulley too, possibly the clutch died. If not then have a car aircon place check the pressure of the system and go from there.

Thanks Gizmo for your advise , That would explain why the windows misted up but soo fast like "Poof" tinted misty windows. Ill try and take a vid of the Aircon compressor noise and post it up as well.
All fuses are fine. Checked them all this morning.

How can i check the clutch?

Also check you did'at dislodge or damage the external temp sensor fitted in the front left fender lining
mist on front windscreen has nothing to do with your air con but got to do with your heater check your heater valves on intake side engen bay good luck

Just an update been away for some time! Work holidays , life ! arg so much and so little time.
Had the car looked over after the issue, No damage no issues. Apparently my aircon compressor is gone . Will tackle this in another post.

Insurance said its age,and water cant damage it. I dont know , I just gave up. Decided It needs to be fixed and ill sort that out at a later stage.

Just thankfull the water didnt damage the car in any way.
Thanks for all help guys :) well on to my next post and current update! :)
