The answer is 156 500Km on the clocks.

Moral of the story when buying a car open the valve cover and have a look inside as well as do a compression test.
Although compression on this car is surprisingly good.

As Sean has already said the engine is coated with varnish as opposed to sludge.
A good indicator of poor oil quality as well as irregular oil changes.
I shall post a pic of the oil filter later so that you may see what happens to aftermarket filters bought at cheap prices.

I think we had 1 guess at 150k early on in the thread so 1 rep point on its way

Is there anyway to 'remove' this kind of varnishing over time?

With regular oil services at shorter intervals?
Once varnish sets in it becomes stubborn and requires chemical treatment to remove.

I find this hard to believe....mobil 1 is good but it is not that good. Even if you manage to run a motor with only solvent based cleaner in the crankcase it would not clean heavy varnishing as is the case here.

Millage tampered with?

I am not saying that it was dipped into the fountain of youth however it may have strayed there at some stage of its life.
