Brakes

Hi,

Does anyone know for sure if the disks on a E46 320i and a E46 323i are the same size? I know the 330i has larger brakes, but is the braking system on the 323 and the 320i the same?

Thanks!

according to haynes manual, e46 318-325 have the same brake sizes.
front=286 mm diameter, 22mm thickness. minimum thickness=20.4mm
rear thickness = 19mm, minimum thickness=17.4mm

328 & 330
front=300 mm diameter,25mm thickness. minimum thickness=23.4mm
rear thickness = 22mm, minimum thickness=20mm

i cant remember the rear diamters right now.

330i other than M3 is the only different one as far as I know.

328i, 330i and M3 have different brake setup... i also think there are more... the 318i, convertibles and the coupes might also be different i have not looked at them because i have not had a reason...

If in doubt its best to check realoem or call the dealer so they can check on the system... i prefer realoem so i dont waste the dealers time...

Thanks for all the feedback. Time has come to replace rotors and pads all round. Instead of going to the boring stock ATE/Metelli OEM route I am thinking about using upgraded slotted and drilled rotors with performance pads. I only have the stock 15 inch BMW mags and dont want to work out the couple of grand to upgrade to 17's or 18's so cant use the 330i brake kit :-(

Thinking of using something like this from www.importparts.co.za but the delivery cost to CPT is in excess of R1800, pretty steep! Does anyone know of a local alternative. Has anyone used EBD brake products before? Ideally I would like to just be able to remove the old stuff and pop on the new sports products without any modifications.

you mean EBC?

im using EBC on my car now find them pretty good... freerider on the forum can get it for you :)

im running the USR slotted disks up front with redstuff pads all round...

you could also try powerbrake they make really good stuff and have a very wide range of pad choices...

Just replaced all disks and pads on my Wife's 320i which have the same size disks and pads as above - paid R 2670.00 for all the parts which were ATE apart from the brake wear sensors. Bought all of this from Midas.
