Brake pads

Use OEM pads. I once made the mistake of using aftermarket pads with OEM discs on my old e36 and they were problematic. They wore the discs to quickly, like said above, or they became glass like, evening driving under recommended states of break-in.

Im using Ferodo DS on OEM, its working well for me. Not much cold bite and alot quite abit of dust but I like it. Stock dealer pads for me are Jurid units. Super dusty but good initial bite and very quiet. The Ferodo squeal like an old school bus.

Hey, sorry for the thread resurrect.

Anyways, Donovan, what brakes did you end up putting on and did you replace the disks as well as the pads? How are they treating you?

So far I'm quite inclined to the ATE option based on the replies here.

Fitted ATE on e36 front and rear about R 700 and no problems ( no squeel , not much dust ) , IMHO they are OEM quality . Did not put copper slip on backs of pads , they have anti vibration pads on .( looks like thin gaskets )

Then again, BMW does 'recommend' that you change the disks together with the pads. This means that if you used ATE (which is the OEM part), then the disk would not even have as much wear as when you used the 'harder' Ferodo pad. So, IMO, life of a disk is not and issue IF YOU GO ACCORDING TO BMW SPEC.

Does BMW really 'recommend' this? They replaced two full sets of pads (front and rear) and only one set of disks in motorplan, all before 100 000kms. Should they have replaced the disks with the pads both times?

Bro, we use either OEM/ATE parts in our cars. Reason being we found that Ferodo has wears the disc out more incomparison to ATE.

Also I was under the assumption that ATE supplied BMW with their brake pads, that has been cleared up thanks @HELLAS.

I on the other hand is having a prob with my Braking system if anyone has time to shed some light it would be appreciated.

What are your opinions on Bosch Brake pads?

Iv replaced my front with Bosch and since havnt had any problems, thay are really clean to,low dust levals,

I will be replacing my Rear Disks with Ate disks and my brake pads with Bosch pads.

Zippy, you've read the recommendations above. If Bosch works for you, then good. It comes down a lot on your driving style. If you REALLY have to depend on your brakes (eg FastnFurious street racer type driver) then get the best quality. Same goes basically for tyres too. But if you are happy with the Bosch and you feel safe with it, then no problems.

I have read peoples opinions and recomendations on other pads but since i had seen this post late (im new here) and i had already purchased these pads, I needed to view other peoples opinions on the Bosch pads, if there may be problems with them later on etc damaging the disks etc as i have noticed not many people talk about them.

Tell you the truth im not really that clued up on Brake pads or disks, my car had come off its moterplan (with the 2 year extension) a year ago and well thay have been changing my pads disks etc ever since new, the Front pads were changed a few months ago, Just the pads (with Bosch pads) But this was the 1st time iv used them, So far thay seem ok, no dust etc and the car stops.

My back disks and pads are totaly worn out so i decided to buy these pads and ATE disks to replace them with.

I have always used ATE on my E30 and never had a problem though. But at the time of buying the front pads for my E46 the Bosch were cheaper and for uniform sake i thaught i should get the same, Though the bosch were again cheaper then the ATE pads.

I dont really drive my car hard,at times i may but most of the time its usualy quite soft.

SO ya thats what i was looking for, peoples opinion on the pad since im new to them and havnt used them for much time. And i dont see many people talk about them.
