I think its all model specific. Some of the cars run Brembo calipers, so might have Brembo pads.

What do the agents use for OEM fitment? ATE, Ferodo? Anyone know?

I think its ATE that the agents OEM.
EBC make some really good stuff - used to use their products for karting - really awesome for performance and fade free, but can wear a std disc more quickly I believe. You could at one stage buy matched sets of pads to replacement disc from them.

Thabo's not allowed to give discounts any more. He gave really good discounts at one point.
Now he can only give you parts at list. Jannie gave me 15% discount on the 135i pads on Monday and 15% on the BMW Performance discs.

The 325i usually gets the Ate pads (OEM) and has Ate calipers. They are really good considering the size of the disc and pads. Other models will probably have different OEM pads. Will see when I collect the pads for the big 6 pot calipers. I have a suspicion they might be Brembo pads considering the list price.:dropjaw:

I've used Bendix before, but find that the Ate pads from BMW have a better initial bite. The Bendix pads need some heat before they bite properly. I am a spirited driver and my pads only last about 20k-25k km's. I always ask the parts salesman for discount. If you don't ask, they will not give you any discount. I have one specific parts salesman I deal with at Auto Bavaria, Jannie.

i also get stuff from there. Thabo from the front desk. Will ask Jannie for a discount :) i need rear pads.

So it's R1571 from agents or R950 Ferodo elsewhere. That's quite a difference on such an amount.

Thought?

My brake light came on last night on my way to work, for the front brakes.
I have NO idea where to buy, but I am not paying R1,000 for a set of pads. :nonono:
I will call Goldwagen, Midas, and BMW, and even my connection, and will report back on the cost, the make, and how I struggled to get it done myself.

It's really not difficult to replace pads. Front pads on your car will never be a R1000.00, not even from the stealers. Shout if you need assistance.

Ferodo Ceramics are adequate for day to day use or the DS2500 pads for track use. The DS 2500's are R1400 a set though. Ceramics are much cheaper

they about R500 from midas for Ferodo or ATE. i change mine all the time.

ensure you have a bungee cord or something to keep the caliper up after removal from the hub. if you doing discs have a rubber mallet available to knock it free.

the most annoying bit is pushing in the pot back into its place to make space for the new pad. i usually use the old pad to press on with a bar/long spanner cos the old pad gets thrown away. that way the rubber boot on the pot does not get damaged.

good luck :=):

So Midas asks R500 for Ferodo pads, and R70 for the brake sensor.
Goldwagen asks R415 for Bilstein pads, and R85 for the sensor.
BMW opens at 09:00, will call them too, and also Willem, my other connection.

By the way, thanks for the offers to help guys, Frikkieh said he will helpme tomorrow afternoon. :thumb:

I just use an old paint tin to put the caliper on while removing the disc.
You get a tool from spare shops to push the caliper open after you removed the pads, but I do it with a big screwdriver against the old pad before i remove the caliper.
The tool looks something like this:

Remember to ask BMW for discount. If you don't ask, they will not offer discount.

that tool looks great
any idea on price otherwise will search
Midas sells something similar, but looks better quality wise. Used one last week when helping a friend change his discs and pads on his Merc. The screwdriver between the disc and old pad trick is a lot quicker though.

My Bl!ksem!
I bought pads for my 325i last year around this time and it was less than R700.00. What is happening here? Not selling as many new cars, and trying to make up in parts sales?:fencelook:

the thing is how do you make money selling parts if no one is buying from you because its too expensive... putting extra markup on noting is still nothing

If BMW sold parts at the same price (or even a little more) as the spares shops who would bother going to a spares shop if you know you can get your part at BMW?
