Boxster needs tissues

I could not help myself when a Boxster decided to hair past me on the freeway last week at about 22h00. He got caught behind a car and I must be honest, I don't know why I did this, I am normally quite reserved and relaxed, but I was overcome with testosterone and decided to let my normally calm easygoing 330i Cab free to gallop. When the car holding up the show moved, the Boxster went and so did my cab. Lets just say that I was as surprised as the Boxster driver. Did not actually realise just how fast this car is. If I was not going so fast, I would have offered the Boxster driver a tissue. I am considerate after all. :dropjaw:

No really, it's amazing how many people get a Porker and think that now they'll automatically beat ANYTHING!!!

Its a boxster though!

Even Citi Golfs stand a chance against the Boxster. (Down Hill) :mmm:

Congrats though on putting him in his place though. These Porsche dudes think they all that. Seriously... We went to a Porsche meet and the arrogance was just plain dreadful. It was horrible being around those people.

These high performance vehicles (Unlike the Boxster) need to realise that modern BMW's, Audi's and VW's like your 330i, Twinz, TSI Engines and FSI engines and countless others are producing much more power then the good old engines which Porsche and others base their engines on.

Nice one!

Har Har...

As Mike will tell you, the crown jewel of the porker family is the 911 Turbo and even that is a close contest with some of our more tuned muscle :)

You mean to say worse than at a BMW...or EVEN a ST meet?

Yeah, nice one, i hate it when people get a boxter or a gayman and think that their car is the ultimate machine.

But i must admit, i tried to race a gt3 RSR, and i kinda fell very short.

Not all porsche folk are bad, but the majority suffer from small man syndrome.

Hahahahah the ST and BMW meets are fun.

The thing about a Porsche is that it is a great car and the heritage of a Porsche must be appreciated.

But across the board. GTI, R32, M3, M5, GT2 etc etc there are always going to be people that consider themselves better because they own a "GTI" (Nevermind that 65% of the Golf 5 sales in South Africa since its launch in 2005 were GTI's) that they are somehow better then others.

I drive a 1800 Corsa "Sport". Bow down to me. But I digress.

What sort of power is the 330i making? I have a 418kw NA E90 330i on Gran Turismo and fecking love it.

170Kw, 300Nm (E46). The car is very deceptive. It behaves like a straight A student but give it some heat and the straight A student acts like the good girl gone bad....... It is calm, tranquil with a slight growl, but give it a kick and it's almost as if it has been waiting for it, it just blasts off. It goes very well. Because I almost never let it run like that, I got a surprise. Correct maintenance, a bit of pride, and she runs like a jet.

997 GT2, I would sell my wife, my daughter and my mother for one of those :mmm:

BTW: this belongs in the TLGP section, venom, I will move it this afternoon, in the mean time you have a few hours to get up to 25 posts which will allow you to follow your own post once I move it ;)

Bloomsbury has a 996 GT3 going for R800 000 with only 40 000km on the clock

P.S - The only difference between a GT2 and a standard Turbo is that the GT2 is 0.1 second quicker 0-100 and has a higher top speed of like 5km per hour. Other then that its the same car. Oh and its rear wheel drive (I think).

The 330i is a stunning car. I would have one in an instant but maintaining it could be entertaining...

I wouldnt say no to a turbo either.

Yeah you are correct, the turbo is AWD and the GT2 is rear wheel only. But the difference between them is a little more than just 0.1 sec and 5km/h.

No... there is minimal difference between the two...

Look here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_911_GT2

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_996

(Dont bother with the GT2 0-100 in the second link. Its wrong)

Porsche 996 Turbo: 3.9 seconds
Porsche 996 Turbo S with Tiptronic: 3.7 seconds
Porsche 996 and 997 GT2: 3.7 seconds

The GT2 has a higher top speed. But to be fair I dont care about how fast a car can go in a straight line.

I have done exstensive research in the differences between a GT2 and GT3 and on a performance level there isnt much to it. The reason people buy the GT2 is because:

- It was originally a racing car converted for road use and has that heritage.
- The bodykit and styling is far more aggressive then a standard Turbo.
- The rear wheel drive action which makes the car much more aggressive and some say exciting.
- Price (Its a limited edition, specialised vehicle. Like buying an Enzo).

Mike

P.S - I have an original Porsche book which was bought from the Porsche Plant in Germany. It has the performance figures for every Porsche that currently exists.

I can scan it if you want.

I believe you, dont worry, but stats are deceptive. The Turbo and the GT2 are both great cars. I would love one.

But ask yourself this. E46 M3 CSL or E92 335i? The stats on the 2 cars are very similar. But they are completely different beasts.

Well of course they are.

I was merely comparing on paper performance between the two.

Handling, driveability and how they use their power are all factors that as you mentioned must be considered.

But all that said, I have heard the GT2 is a pig on the road, and its better to get a Turbo or GT3. I would like to test drive them all.

The Turbo is scary fast but very very well mannered on the road until a point and then it lets go and 90% of the time kills the driver.

The GT3 is more vicious. The rear wheel drive. Boosted power and torque and handling dynamics make it more involving to drive and a lot scarier.

The GT2 is a mixture of both the Turbo and GT3 leaving you with a composed car that can get nasty on you.

The above is what I have been told by Porsche owners and Porsche salesmen.

The funny thing is that since the launch of the Audi R8 V10 there have been countless Porsche owners (We are talking about over 15 owners here) who have traded GT3's, Turbo's and Lamborghini's in for the V10 R8. I assume this is because the V10 R8 give you GT2 power and is still just has precise as a Turbo. The R8 V10 is a serious piece of machinary according to every review and test I have seen.
