boost?

I want to know what boost the guys are running on their cars on our normal shit 95(91 actually) without adding anything like OB or Meth, esspecaily the okes up at reef? My car is FBO and I only run a 13psi(0.8bar) map as my daily and add OB to run anything more...

So what about you guys?

I run 97-100 octane at high boost (1.5 bar) and 95 octane at low boost (0.8 bar)

im on the coast tho

thats on your current setup? what about on stock internals, stock compression?

stock internals and compression was running 0.5 bar with 95 octane

FUEL:

* I run (BP 98 Octane Unleaded race fuel), 20 liter drum (R 481.00) + Meth: Boost 18Psi max. First gear and second gear limited to 10psi

* When available (Sunoco 104 Unleaded race fuel, 20 Liter drum (R 660.00) + Meth: Boost 18psi. First gear 10psi and second gear 12psi.

When none of the above is available:

* 95 Pump fuel 30 Liters + 5 Liters of Toluene which raise it to 104+ octane + Meth: Boost 18Psi. First gear 10 psi and second gear 10psi.

On all the above the car is very smooth, "happy" and strong.

Other additives when available:

* Mach Concentrated race fuel unleaded. I mix this with 20 Liters of 95 or 98 octane fuel. I always have very good results but the Mach concentrate is scarce. Approximately R180.00 per bottle and can treat 40 Liters. Together with Meth: 18Psi

* NF Concentrated race fuel unleaded. I mix this with 20 Liters of 95 or 98 octane fuel. I always have very good results and the NF concentrate is always available. (NF is about R280.00 a bottle and can treat 40 Liters). Together with Meth: 18Psi.

My other considerations:

* Nitrous: I run with any of the above fuel mixtures but always with Meth (80/20% mix in favour of meth): Boost - 14.5Psi max.

* I never run the car on pump fuel alone...ever. :nono:...If I cant find a mix or money is short...I drive the Golf...:joy:

* For x35 owners...the car is meant to run on 100 octane or higher...:thumbs:

* Not all boosted cars respond the same to fuel mixtures...for some cars it works well and for others it just doesn't...:cry:

* Sunoco 109 Ron unleaded (260 GT Plus). Is now in the R700.00 price range for a 20 Liter drum; but it remains very scarce. Car pulls very strong; start up was also quieter and I noticed a drop in fuel consumption from a daily average of 12.4 down to 11.8. I am impressed with this fuel. You can't go wrong with 109 unleaded, you get what you pay for. But in the Cape it is almost never available. If I do get hold of it then I would run 50/50% water meth combination or even less meth. Octane is not an issue on my car when I use Sunoco 109. Boost @ 18Psi. With Nitrous I would increase the boost from 14.5 to 15.5Psi.

Would you run your car on pump fuel + meth only at a lower boost or would you always look at increasing the fuel octane first?

Yes, I would always "look at increasing the fuel octane first?"

There is nothing wrong with running the car on pump fuel and with a tune. She will do what you want it to do.
But when you want to crank up the boost considerably then I err on the safe side.

twins i think chiplogic is selling Sunoco maybe see what they can do for you :) is far but maybe you can hatch a plan...

Thx Moranor. I remember you and i started the meth topic way back and you put a simillar question to me as asked by seether...interesting. We always learn new things about our cars hey...?

yip plenty to learn about cars :) im still thinking of fitting WI to my car before the charger just to play around even though i know it will make little difference... if octane booster makes a difference then WI should also do :)

also WI will make the cooling system work less which i think is a good thing seeing as most drift cars has issues with cooling because airflow over the radiator is reduced...

I was also thinking of using Toluene just to see what it did, but i was worried it might eat something in the fuel system... where do you get it and how much do you pay?

ART supplies to the Boosted Mers & scooby clubs. Art will join the forum as a vendor in Feb then you can place your orders directly from them. The only issue with Toluene i am aware of is the fact that it is "dry" and that the dryness can affect seals in the long term. But i cannot see it happening in such small mixed quantities and with irregular use. But it is possible that ART adds a pinch of "medicine" to make it "wet"...but i cant be certain. The merc and scuby guys have been ordering from him for a long time and there has not been bad feedback...Yet

So what about you guys?
I'm also FBO at the reef on 95 RON, with the new Procede maps I run just over a bar (15PSI) at 3500 RPM's and then taper boost down to 0.8 bar (11PSI) at higher RPM's.

BTW isn't 13PSI almost 0.9 bar, not 0.8 bar?

Yes it is sorry, think 14.5psi is 1 bar so more 0.9 then 0.8... So the FBO guys run the same boost as the sw only guys, I hate our shit fuel....

Just get a diesel, then you can boost as much as you like, even on cooking oil :rollsmile::rollsmile:

Just out of interest does anyone perhaps know what boost levels (at the reef) flash tunes typically run through the RPM range with FOB or SW only using 95RON?

My boost is the same as Baracus when on pump.

Ill go and log my boost tonight and see how it tapers and what the exact numbers per rpm is and post it up...
