BMW X4 fuel consumption

I am getting 13,6 l/100km on my BMW X4 20i.

Could this be right ?

How long is a piece of string? It's all guess work unless you have all of the information.

Is it town driving, highway driving, combined (add %'s if combined)? Is your driving style "spirited" or "old-man" like? Manual or Auto? These things makes a massive difference.

If you tell me you drive rather fast, your car is Auto, and that is 100% town driving then I can believe it and it sounds "semi-decent".

If you tell me you drive 100km/h on the highway, and you drive highway 90% all the time, then I'll tell you there is something seriously wrong with that figure.

Petrol is going to be higher consumption than on a diesel.
also stop and start traffic in town is going to up that.

Give it some time and it should come down, or get it checked.
that sounds high.

It is mostly town driving in Eco Pro and not driving fast. The car has 2000km on the clock.

That definitely sounds high then.

Um.co.za has that car at 4.8l/100km on highway driving, and 5.4l/100km on urban driving. Their figures are normally a little too conservative compared to real world driving, but you shouldn't be sitting at more than double that. :skit:

Since it is still a new car, we can assume the car isn't in need of a service, doesn't have blocked filters, misfires, etc, so my only recommendation is to check and make sure you are running the correct tyre pressures. Tyres that are too soft will increase your fuel consumption.

I would also recommend trying to change your driving style. What you want is slow pull off's, and low cruising speeds. There is no use speeding to 60 and then cruising there, as most of your fuel is used getting up to speed.

It may also be worthwhile booking it in at BMW, and asking them about it. Since it is still in motorplan, they can check for problems and shouldn't charge you for it.

Sounds a bit high, but my new x3 diesel gives me 8.5 to 9 in town which also seems high to me. Best would be to test on a long trip. Best I have seen on the open road is 7 which is also much more than bm claim. Wonder if the wide tyres have something to do with this?

I normally get good fuel consumption figures from my bmw's but on the X4 2.0I my average ran at 13,4 litres per 100km.
My opinion is that the motor is underpowered for the weight of the vehicle and with a better power to weight ratio the fuel economy will be much better.
I sold mine after one month because the fuel usage was unacceptable.

I have a 2012 X3 2.0i with 94,000km on the clock. My overall average for the 8000km I've had it is exactly 11L/100km. 75% of its mileage is relaxed weekend roadtrips at high speed, the rest is made up of very short trips in town.

I find that cruising on the open road at or slightly under the speed limit gets me 9L/100km, at high speed 10.5, and "spirited driving" in town gets me 13-14. It's a heavy vehicle, the 8spd auto does an amazing job at keeping things fairly OK at cruising speeds, but constant town driving takes its toll on consumption...
