Okay where to start.

So after running RK for less than a month on the car, I decided to try something else and someone that made a big name with their 330d. I moved to Madness Motorsport :thumbdo: Was the biggest mistake I ever made!

The car did feel better but was it really better?

I did a 13.98 at Tarlton with the RK file and did a 13.93 at the Kuruman Airstrip. So, this already had me thinking if I made the right choice to move or not. For me, I wanted a reliable daily (wife drives it daily) and something with a little punch when I need it.

Okay so I asked Clive and Alex to go back to the drawing board to get the car stronger for the upcoming BMW Fanatics Race Day….
My wife had a little fender bender in our complex where she damaged the boot a little. So, I decided to take my car to Mo from Crazy Ridez to be fixed. The car was dropped off on the 17th June for the repairs and a small detail. Mo and his team did an excellent job on the car. Can’t thank him enough!

2nd July the car was dropped off at Madness Motorsport to sort a few things out for me.
1. Stronger file
2. XHP
3. Service from RMI Workshop
4. Fitting 2 tyres 300m from them

On the 11th July I was getting worried that the car was going to be sorted for Race day. Everything took a while to get sorted. When I arrived at the workshop the Friday morning, I was told that Clive took the car for a service, so we went to the mall. Later that afternoon I went to fetch the car and I needed to ask to clear my service indicator plus I did not receive an invoice from the RMI place. Made me wonder if it was done even if Alex showed me a Pro Long bottle, who actually uses that shit? Anyway, the car had new tyres at the back, file was done and service was done.

So we left to go to Lynnwood and Alex called me and told me that XHP said the file is ready. I left Lynnwood and we loaded 35d x-drive stage 2 file. So at this point I knew the car will be sorted.

Race day I stared the car and there’s a hunt. I didn’t think much about it but my wife asked about it. I said that it must be something on the file for cold start or something and we made our way to the track.

Was good to meet all the new faces and to see the cars in real life. Some proper cars on the group!

I felt left out as everyone prepped their cars so I decided to strip my interior and add my fuel mix. The car performed proper and was running a 13.48. Was super happy with the time. But everytime I forgot to switch the stupid start/stop off, I get a gearbox overheat error.

So on Monday the car hunted again and I informed both Alex and Clive about it. So the 15th Aug we decided that I need to take it to my mech to have a look at it. One of the injectors values was 1.61 so Clive said cylinder is moer toe. I asked about the file as my mech told me that the value is too small to case the hunt and he will advice that it’s file related. Clive said even if we change file to stock it will still hunt. Also said that Rk killed it, but had RK on for less than a month and madness for 4months at this point. Oh ja also note that Clive did a health check on the car for me before he started with the BMW Mapping file and he said that everything on the car was shap including injectors.

I’ve replaced the injector and get it over with. After they replaced the injector, the car still hunted and on cold start I got white smoke. Clive then said to have the compression tested and I’ve done that, compression was shap. Checked from the turbo to the intake manifold and no boost leaks. Then they said it might be XHP. At that time XHP launched the correct file for my car and we loaded the stage 3 .0d x-drive file. Car still hunted.

Didn’t resolved the issue so I decided to ask on the DOCSA group about it. A few guys said I must have a look for a vacuum leak, we did that and nothing.

I had to go to Klerksdorp on the 11th Oct, asked Alex and Clive again for the service invoice as I still didn’t receive one. This was on the 7th Oct so I decided to service the car again as Clive advice that I get it serviced and my hunt will go away. Hunt was still there ai.

11th Oct they drove all the way to Klerksdorp to see if they can sort the issue out. Big ups to them for taking the drive.
Clive said the reset some values and and and, but the car did not want to hunt. They checked the serial numbers on the injectors and it turned out that the new injector was not coded. They coded the injector and loaded stock tcu file. Alex wanted to load stock file and asked me 3 times but I said no as I don’t want to be stock. I blamed it by saying I was to dronk and can’t remember BUT I actually wanted to see if I replaced injector for no good reason which Alex actually said he will pay for if it turns out to be the file.

The Sunday the car started to hunt again as it was proper cold now. Alex tried to arrange that another guy load me a stock file and we agreed, then he called me back and told me that someone else said it happened to him as well and it was the fuel rail pressor sensor. I decided I'm not loading a stock file and will test the sensor. One of the ways that I was told to test the sensor was to unplug the sensor and see if it still hunts when it goes into limp. This is not the correct way to test it!

At this point I was getting fed up with the car and actually wanted to sell it.

I’ve been talking to Keithan from RK Motion and decided instead of me paying 1.5-2k for a sensor I’ll rather let him lend me his tool and flash the car back to stock as he had my original stock file.

This past weekend Keithan and Kamz came all the way to Klerksdrop to load a RK file on the car. Till today the car did not hunt at all! No issued on the car what so ever!

End of the day, if they loaded stock file or my madness file in the first place, before replacing an injector and all the other shit I had to do, they would have seen that it was file related and not hardware related. All this stress and issues for nothing!

Till today I did not even receive a sorry.

Thanks for the feedback @Cornel.. Will be interesting to see what the guys from Madness have to say.

I had plans to load Madness on the 20d, but my biggest concern was the after sales support if I had issues, seeing as though I am based in Durban and they are from Jhb.. I decided to wait a bit seeing as though Madness was new on the scene, given the current feedback, I have decided to wait a bit before doing any software.

There's nothing wrong with Madness.
Doing business with Clive and Alex is nothing but a pleasure.
But RK is not to be scoffed at either from what I've heard. Heck go Xcede. All good

Pick your pick and when something goes slightly wrong don't go and bash the other tuner and vice-versa

Not to stir, but Xcede does have support in Durban

There's a fair number of us running Xcede without any complaints
