BMW turns Z4 into a GT3 Batmobile

BMW’s Z-series cars have always been thought of as the poseurs’ choice.
This is especially true of the current Z4, which does not (yet) feature a hardcore M-division derivative.
If you follow endurance racing, you’ll know the perception of Z4 being dynamically inert is a facility of sorts. In fact, BMW’s Z4 GT3 customer racing car is one rather sophisticated (and successful) bit of kit, which took overall victory at the Dubai 24 Hours race in January.
Despite this, BMW engineers were recalled to a punishing March testing schedule around the Nurburgring in order to produce a series of improvements to the car.
This resulted in a few aerodynamic tweaks to the car’s composite surfacing and new electronic control modules for both the 4.4-litre V8’s engine management and its six-speed paddle-shift actuated sequential transmission.
Powered by a 353kW version of the M3 GTS V8, instead of a competition engine based on its series production in-line six engine, the Z4 GT3 not only looks like a Bavarian Batmobile - it goes like one too. Priced at around R3 million a piece, one would expect nothing less...
