And thats why opinions are like arseholes, we all have one
only time will tell how many Stangs will be on SA roads in the next few years..
oh one last thing, most Lumina drivers wont be able to afford a mustang, so dont expect them to go jumping over onto the Stang. plus luminas have 4 doors so are a good family car option which i dont see the Stang being.

Me says , the M2 if you buy a car for your self ,performance ,handling ,looks that appeal to you and not care that someone in traffic thinks it only a tarted up BMW coupe , the cognoscenti will know what you drive is special , the Mustang if you prefer cruising around and looking in your rear mirrors to see if the school kids on the pavement are still starring , I like that Mustang but would choose a manual Bmw for the same money.

I have managed to get myself a number 2 slot for a bmw m2, have till the end of the week to decide if i want it. there is no allocation yet and the dealer is not sure if they getting, so number 2 slot might not mean anything but according to other dealers i spoke too they all getting 1-4 cars each. one dealer said that south africa getting 60 odd cars for this year, 190 cars total for the next 3 years.
Are u located in Capetown ? Which dealership did you talk to?

Theres no history in SA of Mustangs so I doubt theres going to be massive amounts of people that are interested in buying one 2nd hand.

The reason for that is this is the first time in HISTORY that the Mustang is made in right hand drive.(crazy, I know) All previous iteration only came in LHD.

Regardless, I support your decision to go for the Beemer. American cars have improved in build quality recently, but they are still way behind the Germans.

The amazing thing is that the Lumina is now discontinued and people are paying insane prices for them. There was a 2013 Lumina UTE that was sold last year April for R550k :hammerhead:
Also I think the Lumina was selling for close to R600k when they stopped production. Let's just consider this as the "new" Lumina for us South Africans... I would think a lot of people would have been willing to pay R800k for an all new Lumina, so I'm sure they would for the Mustang.
Only time will tell

If the stang was super charged then yes I would buy one
and its coming to SA in detuned guise, big no no for me.

If i were to buy the stang I would be worried if its gonna snap side shafts which are common on these cars. BMW M2 will be ultimate piece of mind. The stang really has to be a weekend car cause I dont see a full tank lasting very long

Either we at least the mustang will be an option for us!!!

I'd rather go for the M2.

The general reason for the choice of the Mustang on this thread, and probably throughout SA, is "it turns more heads", and I couldn't careless about grabbing people's attention and having bragging rights about owning a Mustang if you aren't truly happy with the car.

The M2 will undoubtedly be the superior driver's machine, and that's all that matters imo.

Anyone who has seen the interior of the Mustang up close will notice it us much worse than the Focus, nevermind BMW.

Good luck shelling out R800k for that.

Man at that prices it's hard to recommend one over the other. I personally would go for the Stang as I have driven an M car, so the Stang represents something new to me. However you should check how the car is built and how she rides. You gonna be driving along in this vehicle for a while, best to be comfortable.

Something else to consider is bang for buck, I recall that American cars sometimes come with everything and a kitchen sink, whereas I'm sure the M2 will have a nice options list. If you gonna keep the car you may as well have all the options I suppose.

I remember years ago when the Runx Rsi came out, I went with a friend to a dealership.
We were told no test drives. Toyota SA does not allow it, might have been that dealership only, but was still dumb if you ask me. Well, we turned around, walked to Audi, and he bought an A4 instead.

I guess the reason why they do not allow test drives is because all the cars have already been sold. They come into the country in limited numbers, should probably even out in a few months. My father bought one of "if not the first one" and it had to stand on the dealer floor for 3 days while they did the pdi and all the paper work.

I saw a Mustang GT at Fouche Motors when I was there (went to see something else). Sticker price: R1.2M LOL. 500km on it. Nobody in their right mind would choose this over an M4 or a used 911. Got to REALLY love american muscle to spend that money... They did start it but didn't drive it. Sounds OK. Nothing crazy, but I suppose these cars are in a way blank canvases for the owner to customize (Just alot more expensive than usual LOL)

Interested to know what they are actually changing hands at because they seemed to think it would sell pretty quickly at R1.2M. Doubt Ford cares that many have just gone on to dealers who put a markup onto them (but then again, these days which manufacturer actually cares about their enthusiast communities)

It's not about turning heads, it's about being different from the rest
